Product Description

Product Description

Light Yagami is an ace student with great prospects, and he's bored out of his mind. But all that changes when he finds the Death Note, a notebook dropped by a rogue Shinigami death god. Any human whose name is written in the notebook dies, and now Light has vowed to use the power of the Death Note to rid the world of evil. But when criminals begin dropping dead, the authorities send the legendary detective L to track down the killer. With L hot on his heels, will Light lose sight of his noble goal...or his life? Light, working as Kira, the newest member of the NPA intelligence bureau, and L, has nearly succeeded in creating his ideal world. But the years of uncontested victory have made him complacent, and he is unprepared for a new attack close to home. With his younger sister Sayu kidnapped and the NPA's Death Note demanded as ransom, Light must travel across the world and confront two new adversaries, each with a very different agenda. Will Light's quick wits be a match for this new challenge, or will he be forced to choose between Kira's ambitions and his own family's lives?

5.0 out of 5 stars The heirs to L fight back, 3 Jul 2008
By T. R. Alexander (East Anglia, UK) - See all my reviews
(TOP 500 REVIEWER)    (REAL NAME)
Although Light is close to creating his perfect world, he has started to encounter some unexpected problems. Near and Mello, the two genius youngsters who have taken over from L, are competing with each other to try to solve the case first, Near working with the FBI and Mello with the Mafia. Having kidnapped Light's sister Sayu, Mello appears to have the upper hand as he blackmails the NPA for the Death Note but Light is soon making plans to retake the initiative.

Death Note continues to be nothing less than involving in this eighth volume of this fascinating manga and the plot seems to be getting thicker and more convoluted as time goes on. If there is a downside of the story so far it is that the two replacements for L, Near and Mello, don't seem to be as interesting or likeable as their predecessor but I suppose there could be more characterisation of the two in future volumes. Death Note remains to be nothing less than a compulsive read and I cannot wait to discover how the story turns out.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Manga Ever?, 15 Jan 2007
By K. Dangerfield (Ciren, UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I've been devouring manga the past few years, and have not found one that has captivated me as much as Death Note. An intense plot with more twists than a bag of pretzels is coupled with a dark sense of humour and jaw dropping artwork to bring you one of the most thought provoking series of graphic novels I've ever read.

Book 8 takes place 4 years after Light first receives the notebook, and the plot takes an entirely new direction once again. The plot explodes to proper global levels with new rivals Mello and Near giving Light's grey matter a serious workout. One warning though- you'll be counting down the days until the summer for the conclusion..

5.0 out of 5 stars Kira vs two L's, 4 Dec 2008
Now it gets intresting Mello and Near (N and M the new letters in town) are hear to stay.... and to give make Light's (Kira) life hell.

So now the all out brawl of minds keeps on going and now the Kira's vs the Letter's fight is even bigger than before. The only flaw in the later volumes is that its a little more well slow. But that does not really matter its still a great manga.
