Product Description

Product Description
Light Yagami is an ace student with great prospects - and he's bored out of his mind. But all that changes when he finds the Death Note, a notebook dropped by a rogue Shinigami death god. Any human whose name is written in the notebook dies, and now Light has vowed to use the power of the Death Note to rid the world of evil. But when criminals begin dropping dead, the authorities send the legendary detective L to track down the killer. With L hot on his heels, will Light lose sight of his noble goal...or his life? Light thinks he's put an end to his troubles with the FBI - by using the Death Note to kill off the FBI agents working the case in Japan! But one of the agents has a fiancee who used to work in the Bureau, and now she's uncovered information that could lead to Light's capture. To make matters worse, L has emerged from the shadows to work directly with the task force headed by Light's father. With people pursuing him from every direction, will Light get caught in the conflux?

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful and as nasty as hell, 9 Jan 2007
By ajm coen "Karasu-kun" (UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
The series starts off with a killer premise, and the second volume delivers on it in spadeloads. In this volume Light-kun becomes even more obsessive and perfectly psychopathic, 'cleansing' the world as an executioner with no-one to answer to. Finally we are introduced to the peculiar and enchanting L, the introverted and ageless genius who boasts a few loose screws of his own. They are both willing to do anything to prove that their own brand of justice is the correct one, and with the absence of a narrative moral voice the reader is left to decide on their own who is right.

This one isn't for kids, as nearly the entire story is composed of dialogue, conjecture and exquisite headgames. When action arrives it is heartless; do not get attached to the secondary characters. This is a fine-tuned work and is intended neither for the emotionally squeamish or for the splatter fans, and has no sex or nudity.

In a short sentence, *this is very very good*. Give it a few years, and if DeathNote isn't considered one of the finest bits of craft to come from Japan (or indeed from the human race) then there is no justice and Light-kun should be writing *everyone's* name in his little black book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fascinating and involving, 31 Dec 2007

(TOP 500 REVIEWER)    (REAL NAME)
This second volume of the brilliant Death Note manga is just as engaging and enthralling as the previous volume and sees the conflict between Kira and L gets tougher. In this volume Light Yagami must find a way to rid himself of the FBI surveillance without letting anybody know he is Kira. After the FBI are dealt with, L decides a gesture of faith is needed and he reveals himself to the much reduced NPA squad dealing with the Kira case.

Death Note continues to be brilliantly written, Light's slow decent into megalomania and L's own rather eccentric mannerisms are beautifully realised in both the script and the art. The books plot never ceases to be anything less than engrossing with many a twist along the way. This manga is not for the faint hearted however with many a subsidiary character being bumped off. This series just gets better and better.

5.0 out of 5 stars Meet L, 1 Nov 2008
This one starts with a bang and gives this quite brilliant series one of its brilliant cast... L.

Now I wont tell you anything about our chum L.He is a great enemy for good old Light(The villain/anti hero of the story) and thats not all! More new people some even killed off shocks thrills and chills.Death Note gives it its all in the great part two.

Oh and even if you thought the story was slow in volume 1 dont worry it picks up a little more in this one.Still this manga series aint for everyone its very texted based and its not for the action manga people.
But I say even if this aint your kind of manga check it out its worth a look.
