This volume contains 9 episodes - 29-37 inclusive.

A quick montage shows how the Kira legend has permeated society and become a dominant force around the globe. The world seems to be a better place, but it's been achieved through collective fear and the tyranny of Kira rather than a conscious desire for change. Even the American president publicly announces that his country will not oppose Kira's justice.

The last volume contained only 4 episodes and saw the end of a major character, it's a loss which certainly doesn't unnoticed but there's so much going on during this volume that it doesn't matter. The Kira cause is helped by the creation of a new TV series dedicated to him ("Kira's Kingdom"), Kira's 'disciples' will play an important part in the finale of this excellent series. Light's new nemesis Near spends time playing with his toys whilst hatching a plan to trap Kira (he's made no secret that he believes Light to be the international menace) and the usual battle of wits develops into a frenzy which will climax in the final two episodes. Although such mental sparring has occurred throughout the series, it never gets tedious. In fact, it's one of the main strengths of the show and the last episode is incredibly tense given that the series has the habit of taking unexpected turns - you simply don't know who will prevail, or at what cost.

I don't want to give away any spoilers to the conclusion of the Death Note anime series, I can say with confidence though that this has been one of the most gripping series I have ever seen (animated or otherwise) and the last volume does justice (quite literally!) to the complex sequence of events which have led to this point.

This fifth and final volume of the Death Note anime contains the last nine episodes of this great series. The episodes continue the battle of wits between Kira and L's heirs as the world is slowly coming around to Kira's way of thinking.

Although Death Note hasn't been as good as it use to be since the death of L, it has always been one of the better anime series that I have seen. This volume is no exception and does unfortunately feel slightly rushed in places and drawn out in others. Everything is sorted out by the final two episodes though which are truly excellent and definitely the best part of the series with a surprisingly beautiful ending. Overall Death Note has been a great series and is a definite must watch for any anime fan.

I won't give a single thing away, but in my opinion this is the perfect ending to an amazing series. If you enjoyed the rest of the Deathnote series, this is just unmissable.
