1.0 out of 5 stars Not A Re-Edited Version? Really?! 18 Jun 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase
I have the complete series on DVD and as I was watching this I felt it seemed very similar to the original, so I made a comparision....This is just an edited version of episodes 1-25 with a few add on's! VERY disapointed! According to the production team they didn't want to just do an edited version of the series...but except for a bit at the begining and end of Ryuk explaining the story there is no inidcation that this is from his point of view. No added thoughts and added scenes of Ryuk looking on! If I could return this for the simple fact that it's a lie I would! It's not Death Note from Ryuks point of view, it's a VERY cut down version of 25 episodes!!!! Total rubbish!!!

2.0 out of 5 stars DeathNote Relight 5 May 2011

I found the title of this DVD to be quite misleading. The film wasn't 'through the eyes of a Shinigami' but was just a long series catch up with one new scene. I was very disappointed with this DVD as it was not what I was expecting. If you have already seen the anime then I would not recommend this, your better off re-watching the series as this DVD is quite rushed as misses out some good parts. I really was looking forward to seeing it from Ryuk. As a massive Ryuk fan, I was disappointed about how little he was even in it! Overall, I enjoyed a re-cap of the series but found this to be a little pointless, even for people who have never seen Death Note before, This misses out far too much info for it to make sense. I rate this 2 stars.

3.0 out of 5 stars Death Note retold 22 Mar 2010
By T. R. Alexander TOP 500 REVIEWER VINE™ VOICE
This retelling of the Death Note story is somewhat interesting but does feel rather unnecessary if you have read the manga or the seen the previous anime. If anything the film is just the highlights of the best buts of the series from the begin to around episode 25 of the original anime series.

The main problem that this film has is that in order to cut the series down to a little over two hours, they have had to cut out quite a bit of the story and, while they did leave in the important information, this has lead to certain parts of the film being a bit rushed or curtailed. Other than this the film itself is as good as the original series in both animation and vocal cast.

If you have seen the previous anime than there this film doesn't bring anything new but it could be interesting if you are new to Death Note.

4.0 out of 5 stars a great small summary of deathnote 4 Jun 2012

This is more like a 2 DVD set (you need vol 1 and 2) version of the original anime, i think it uses most of the footage from the original anime but it's much shorter, about 1.5hrs or each disc rather than 37 episodes of 20 mins each.. I think there;s extra footage on this though, however i am only on vol 5 of the death note series..

4.0 out of 5 stars Not as good as the second..... 16 Aug 2011
...for people who've watched the whole series, this one is very similar to the series and contains two added scenes and several altered scenes.
This DVD is really just for people who haven't watched the series and want to know the plotline. However it does answer one question that viewes of the series may want to know, but i shaln't say it, because of spoilers, but the DVD isn't worth it for just the answer.
