Book Description

1 Oct 2009 Death Note
Light Yagami is an ace student with great prospects - and he's bored out of his mind. But all that changes when he finds the Death Note, a notebook dropped by a rogue Shinigami death god. Any human whose name is written in the notebook dies, and now Light has vowed to use the power of the Death Note to rid the world of evil. But when criminals begin dropping dead, the authorities send the legendary detective L to track down the killer. With L hot on his heels, will Light lose sight of his noble goal...or his life? Light tests the boundaries of the Death Note's powers as L and the police begin to close in. Luckily Light's father is the head of the Japanese National Police Agency and leaves vital information about the case lying around the house. With access to his father's files, Light can keep one step ahead of the authorities. But who is the strange man following him, and how can Light guard against enemies whose names he doesn't know?

5.0 out of 5 stars My first Manga 1 Mar 2012
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
My friends had always spoken highly of Death Note, and I foolishly used to ignore the praise they gave it, thinking it was 'just a comic'. However, after a few years I decided to at least be open-minded and give it a try. And you know what? I'm glad I did! This isn't a manga aimed at kids. The story is rich and complicated and each chapter leaves you wanting to find out what happens next. As the story develops, the plot takes a number of twists and turns. I had not expected such an enjoyable read! The price of this box set is brilliant. It's packaged well with high quality cardboard and the art work is brilliant. This is the series that got me into graphic novels and manga.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic! 5 Aug 2011
Format:Paperback
This is a brilliant series of books, once you start reading them you can't put them down!
The packaging is good, the box that the books come in is sturdy and there is a handle on top of the box that makes it easy to carry the set around. What I like about the box set is that not only do you get the 12 books in the death note series, the box set also comes with the 'Death note:how to read' book and a little booklet with all of the death note rules inside. In addition to this, the box set contains L's real name!
This product is certainly good value for money when you consider how much buying each of the books individually would cost.

5.0 out of 5 stars What a storyline! 28 Dec 2011
By Buffy
Format:Paperback
Just to summarise, Light is a mass murderer with a Death Note, attempting to rid the world of evil and become the god of the new world. L is the amazing detective trying to stop him. They are both geniuses and at first they both need to find out the other's name and face. However the story progresses far further than that, and you find yourself sucked into a world of Shinigami, murder, games and sweets... There's a lot of sweets...

So in my review I will lay out the most important reasons why I gave this product 5*:

1.) This set comes in a great little box, that keeps all your books tidy and safe. I love my books, and am a little bit of a neat freak, so my books have to be in pristine condition and where I can find them easily. This case is perfect for that.

2.) If you add it up, with each volume of Death Note costing about 5, this box set saves you about 20-30. What's more, There are 12 volumes in the series, but you also get a little book of death note rules and an extra book about the artist and writer's thought processes. What a bargain!

3.) In the 'How To Read' book, there are complete character biographies, storyline summaries, production notes, interviews with Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata (the creators), and what I was looking forward to the most, a whole new bonus manga chapter of never-before-translated material! There's even a little quiz you can take to see which character you are most like. I won't tell you mine...

4.) Ah, the story itself... There is only one way to describe it, FANTASTIC. 12 volumes chock full of exciting and dramatic twists and turns.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pure Genius 2 May 2009
Format:Paperback
This is quite possibly the best Manga series ever created.
All the volumes will have you hooked - and if you're anything like me, you'll end up going through 1 volume (or more!) per day.

Without revealing too much of the plot - it can be best described as an action crime thriller. It has death gods, cops, a small handful of geniuses attempting to work out riddles which keep you on your feet, and many more interesting characters.

It also (quite wittingly) gives you an internal psychological battle, where you try to figure out whether you're with the 'goodies' or the 'baddies', as either side could be good or evil depending on your perspective.

If you're not a huge fan of manga/comics or you're not sure about the series, buy volume 1 first and see how it goes. But if you're a huge manga fan, you may as well buy the entire box set right now!

5.0 out of 5 stars Intence 23 Dec 2010
Format:Paperback
Length: 1:15 Mins
This has to be one of the intense mangas I've read. The story is about a student, who fins a book that lets him kill people by writhing their name in the book, and it follows another person trying to find him. As the story goes, it's full of twists and will make you want to read the next chapter to find out what happens next. The characters are smart, and it's fun seeing them trying to outsmart one another. It's a top manga. People looking for action, this isn't it though. It's a realistic world, where the police are involved in solving crimes.

The covers of the volumes, are very beautiful, with a quality that is better than the manga it self. The 13th book in the set, is bigger than the 12 volumes of the manga, and is basically an explanation of characters, the stories etc, and also features the pilot of the manga. It's really thick and good quality
Separately it also has a rulebook explaining the rules of the death note book.

Beautiful packaging as well.

A recommended manga =D
