I have long been a fan of a good suspense novel, and ‘Death is Not an Option’ by Mike McManus is one of the best I have read this year. With a little bit of something for everyone, I have to say that I am waiting diligently for the author’s next release.
First of all, McManus’ writing style is concise and packed with characterization that pushes the plot forward. In truth, this book is really a character-driven novel, and so this becomes more important as we learn about the stories that they face.
The characters themselves are memorable. Penny and Clayton, the main protagonists of the book, always make me want to learn more about them. Moreover, the way they change throughout the book, all the way until the culmination, is an absolute joy.
The plot-line in this story is enthralling. I read this book in only three sittings, and given that it is a rather hefty book, that qualifies it as being a true ‘page-turner’. It starts off simple, but quickly becomes complex enough that the mystery is something the reader just needs to solve.
I would recommend this book to anyone who likes suspense, romance, and all-around well crafted dramatic fiction. I loved it, and I hope to read more from Mike McManus soon.
