5.0 out of 5 stars Everybody likes Zombies! 21 July 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
Zombies on the rampage in my home town? I had to read this - who knows, I might need it one day.

Absolutely loved this book. It is written in a way that I could imagine each scene and character in great detail. The journal entries by our reluctant hero, John Diant, interwoven with individual stories of other residents of Runcorn (undead and alive!) totally work together to create a story that both scared the "pants offa' me" and made me laugh out loud!

There has to be a sequel to this - I NEED to know what happens next!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Death In A Northern Town 31 May 2014

Brilliant Brilliant Brilliant !

What an absolutely incredible, hilariously funny, comic zombie caper.

This really has everything - zombies, blood, guts, vomit and errrr other waste matter, space raiders crisps, the magnificent Battle For Poundland, Gary Numan tapes and rather a lot of mayonnaise.

All of this and the remarkable 80s Dave. It couldn't be any better.

Anyone who has seen and loved the fantastic film 'Shaun Of The Dead', is sure to love this superb book.

I just hope that we'll not have too long to wait for the next book from Peter Mckeirnon.....

2.0 out of 5 stars Dawn of the deadly banal 29 Oct. 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Had so hoped to enjoy this book, thinking a humorous account of a northern Zombieland would be fun. It's not. Really nothing very much happens, though when it does you can count on it already have been done before in some film or book.

Spelling and grammar at times are also atrocious. The author could do with learning the difference, for example, between 'effect' and 'affect'.

Mainly due to the mundane non-event of a story, the terrible Scouse-ism' s (NO-ONE speaks like that), and the constant puerile nature of the humour, I would avoid this like the plague.

Oh and by the way - fictional character or not - Tortoro is a legend, so quit the bad-mouthing eh(?!) ;)

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful story, brilliant characters and 3 Aug. 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I've never read a book that made me want to laugh while I'm throwing up! Wonderful story, brilliant characters and, quite simply, tremendous gory fun.

Peter is a great storyteller and uses his grotesque and funny imagination to take you on a journey through a zombie apocalypse in a typical (?) northern town. He balances the gore and humour perfectly, plus his characters have a gritty realism, enhanced even more by the fact that this all takes place in generally prosaic surroundings.

Even if you've never lived in Runcorn (although I have), it's easy to identify with the types of settings and places in the story, and this is a testament to Peter's writing. He deserves to go a long way (and I'd love to see a film!).

Just received book 2 this week, so thoroughly looking forward to reading that too! Tell the world Peter Mckeirnon has been sent to make us laugh (... and occasionally throw up...!).

3.0 out of 5 stars Fairly good read 23 Aug. 2013

Fairly good read for a short book. 80's Dave become endearing but the book best describes Runcorn as a whole once a thriving town now a haunt for zombies.
