Gallows have succeeded in creating one of the best 7 minutes you can have. New vocalist Wade MacNeil does an excellent job of continuing the ferocity of the bands previous work and fits in perfectly around the ever-so-slightly different sound of the band. True Colours consists of riff after riff after riff with ear-destroying vocal work whilst Mondo Chaos has a new more Anti-flag lyrical style with a gang vocal chorus that's quite new to Gallows. HATE! HATE! HATE! proves to be just as deadly and just as catchy as Gallows previous material, as does Death Is Birth.
Things are looking great for Gallows next full-length release and this is perfect to tide you over until then.

When Frank Carter quit Gallows, they lost their fiery lyrics, their violent charisma, and the hope of a lot of their fans. Replacing him with Wade MacNeil of Alexisonfire fame did little to dissuade the doubters.

Then the demo of 'True Colours' emerged online, a truly brilliant 38-second blast of aggression that showed MacNeil had it in him to front Gallows after all.

And then... Death Is Birth emerged.

The re-recorded 'True Colours' is not a patch on the original demo version, a higher end production but completely shorn of the feral roar it used to have.

That's the least of this appalling EP's problems, as 'Mondo Chaos' may the single worst song the band has ever recorded - and that includes 'Staring At The Rude Bois.'

Whether MacNeil can pull it out for an album remains to be seen, but honestly I'm more concerned about the live shows. If MacNeil can't even keep up with Gallows' searing British anger, how can he hope to reproduce Carter's unique lyrics - sample themes: shipwrecks and daterape - in a gig situation?

The future remains to be seen, but based on this, it's pretty bleak.

Just felt compelled to write a short review to illustrate how unoriginal this new album is. As someone who is not particularly part of the "Gallows are nothing without Frank" parade, I was shocked to dicover that there is literally nothing that makes this record recognisable, let alone british. I actually though it was Cancer Bats on first listen (which is definately not an insult, but it's not how Gallows should sound?!). From the indestinguishable vocals to the unimaginitive and repetitive guitars, this record just seems to lack any quality which made me love this band.

Fingers crossed that they can find their new direction and some originality, or call it a day and stop dragging the name down.
