I rather enjoyed the final book in the Cormyr trilogy, with King Azoun going to War-victory or death-against the threats to his kingdom alongside his younger daughter, Alusair, while Tanalasta, his older daughter, fights to hold together the home front by fair means and foul. Everyone knows Cormyr didn't fall, all these years later, but reading about what happened is still of interest and great fun for Forgotten Realms fans who wonder what happened to old characters sometimes mentioned in passsing by various Authors. Of course, the greatest treat is Vangerdahast, the Royal Magician, who has managed to get himself into an almighty mess trying to deal with things his own way and may not be able to extract himself from them on his own.
Of course, no FR novel would be complete without great conflict, catastrophic magical duels, the occassional Dragon and the kind of complications that could only occuur in a world where almost anyone can wield magic and always has their own agenda. In this, the novel delivers well indeed. The treat is, even right at the end, it is not clear who will live, who will die and, to finish, even what will be left standing of Cormyr itself when the War is over. A good story, I just wish my book had been in slightly better condition.
