Men are being found murdered and mutilated in the notorious Devil's Acre. Inspector Pitt investigates, and due to one of the victim's connection with an earlier case, Charlotte Pitt also intervenes.
Hmm....There are a lot of good things here, especially the plot strand involving General Balantyne, but something about this didn't work for me. It's a very short novel, yet it seemed to drag. Perry doesn't really create much interest in whodunnit here, which is maybe the reason. Again, Perry ends things abruptly. The climax is fairly spirited, but perhaps a bit more of how the characters react to who the murderer is would have been good. There's an air of this being written by demand of the publisher, rather than something more organic. Perry fans may lap this up but it didn't do much for me.
