Maybe I've been spoilt by reading Rankin and Robotham but I found this book lacking in pace, veracity and interest. Rose was unbelievable as a detective at any level - children stayed missing, crimes lay dormant for three months at a time with nobody bothering about them, her emotions were lacking in depth and expressed in repetitive and stilted language and her conversations seemed old-fashioned. And she kept saying how old she felt at the age of thirty three or thirty five (it varied)

A pretty good, pacey plot with plenty of twists but although I was intrigued by Rose's predicament and internal dilemmas they never really made me feel for her. The story is good, the characters are ok but it didn't really move me. I never really felt that Rose was in any kind of danger, even when I had a good idea of what kind of man Robin really was, which seemed a bit of a shame. That said, still a pretty good page-turner.

Another great story from Hilary Bonner. The characters are very well thought out and the text flows in such a way as to keep you hooked! This isn't a 'Who-dun-it' style of book, we know which sides everyone's on from the first few chapters. There's some romance, thrills and spills, a few surprises along the way and you really feel for the main character Rose. If you've not read any of Bonner's other works, this is a great book to start with.
