Product Description

She calls herself Rune. She lives a downtown life and works running errands for a couple of documentary filmmakers. At 21, she's "nowhere", and that's not where she wants to be. So, armed with a borrowed video camera, she embarks on a freelance career of making movies herself. Unfortunately, her first attempt within the hallowed walls of the XXX Velvet Venus Theatre was unexpectedly interesting. A bomb takes out half the cinema and a number of patrons. Rune, however, sees the possibilities and decides to track the culprit through the New York underworld with her camera in tow - as well as Bomb Squad Detective Sam Healy. And thus begins her journey to the heart of a city of neon nightmares.

This is the second book of the trilogy with Rune as the main "detective type" character. She's a young girl in New York working for a company that produces tv commercials. Her dream is to become a film maker. There is a bomb explosion in an adult film theater and Rune has the idea of making a film about the bombing and an actress involved in the adult cinema.

As always Rune is a very curious person and puts herself in danger in order to get what she's looking for. The story is very interesting and very believable. The first book presented the character a bit weak and you weren't so attached as you would be with Rhymes/Sachs, but this is so much better. The book gives a lot of info about bombs. You get the usual twists but the last ones (even on the last two pages) are so surprising!

Easy reading with loads of suspence. Deaver is great and I am looking forward to read the next Rune book!

This book is up to Jeffrey Deaver's usual high standards, but with a depth of poignancy I found quite touching. The characters are so real, I dreamt about them for days. If you haven't read this, I strongly recomend that you do. Not only does it open your eyes, but it makes you look at the Blue Movies senario with a different outlook.

I must admit that the book didn't start of very well with rather stilted dialogue and rather obvious hooks. But just a couple of chapters into the book the characters seemed to take off. It was like the author just overcame some sort of threshold and then ran with the plot. It is not the best of his books but is charming in a quirky kinda way.
