5.0 out of 5 stars Simply superb 13 April 2006
By Redwood
Format:Paperback
Dark, ironic, intelligent and witty, sword and sorcery writing doesn't get any better than this. Kane is an anti-hero, and these stories mark Karl Edward Wagner of one of the finest authors of the genre. If you like Moorcock's Elric, you should love this.

5.0 out of 5 stars Kane short stories 17 April 2002
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
Three complete short stories, but each also adds to the lore regarding Kane.
1. Reflections for the Winter of My Soul - Can Kane still feel normal human emotions or does he have more in common with his supernatural adversary than with humans. Contains an interesting postscript to another Kane book 'Dark Crusade'.
2. Cold Light - Who does more damage, the merciless do-gooders who ignore the pain caused by their quest or someone who acts out of more selfish motives?
3. Mirage - Even immortals can be fools to their desires.

Kane: first murderer from the human race, rebelled against the god that created Man, consequently cursed to live forever unless he himself is violently killed, after several lifetimes of boredom and frustration he isn't inclined to suffer fools or enemies gladly, and it's dangerous enough being Kane's friend let alone his enemy. He's picked up a few skills over his lifetimes: mage, warrior, assassin, general, pirate, priest, bandit but most of all he's a killer. His ambitions lead him to mix with the class of person that you might think deserve Kane's attentions. Unlucky for them. That's what makes the stories entertaining....
