Product Description

Robert Blake, Duke of Lear, is a man of intense emotions who loves deeply and protects fiercely.

Devastated and wracked with guilt by the death of his younger brother, Stefan, in the Peninsular War, he readily agrees to aid Jane Chandler to bring her seriously wounded brother back from Portugal. Much against Jane’s wishes, he decides to accompany her and together they embark on the hazardous mission to retrieve the young soldier. However, the journey holds many revelations, not least of all the abiding friendship and growing love between the two travelers.

That special love is put severely to the test by the treachery that awaits them upon their return to England, when a tenant of Jane’s former home invades their lives, maliciously creating jealousy and misunderstandings for his own nefarious reasons. Can their friendship and love conquer the emotions that threaten to tear them asunder or will the perpetrator emerge victorious?

My Dearest Friend is a very tender love story about two people who are dearest friends first before marriage. The characters are likeable and their expressions almost dance across the pages. The reader cannot help but be caught up in their life. Ms. Statham blends all the right elements that breathe life into this well-written classic that I recommend. 4 cups — Coffee Time Romances

More About the Author

Hazel Statham began writing at the age of fifteen, finally committing to paper the stories she spun as a child. Writing has been her passion ever since, although marriage, motherhood, and career left time for little else. Once she retired, however, she was able to devote herself to writing full-time, publishing her first novel in 2007. A longtime student of history, she writes mainly in the Regency and Georgian eras, though she has been known to dabble in the medieval as well. She lives in Staffordshire, England, with her husband, Terry, and their beloved yellow Labrador, Mollie

4.0 out of 5 stars A satisfying end to a series! 8 Mar 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
A satisfying end to the trilogy which began with Consequence. Ms Statham's writing was powerful enough for me to feel Robert's loneliness and despair. It would have been interesting to discover what happened to Robert's parents whose meeting formed the basis of the previous story in the series.

4.0 out of 5 stars I enjoyed this and would recommend it 8 Aug 2014

Yes. I enjoyed this and would recommend it. It's a happy, satisfying story.

Unlike some of the more modern romances NOT so much sex, but more 'touching' than
I expected for a book of that era. So, I think author got the right balance.

Thank you to MS Stratham..

5.0 out of 5 stars A Sweet Romance for Regency Lovers 31 Aug 2011
By Cheryl C. Malandrinos - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
Robert Blake, Duke of Lear, is filled with guilt and grief over the death of his younger brother, Stefan, in the Peninsular War. When Jane Chandler appeals to the Duke for help in bringing her gravely wounded brother home from Portugal, Robert insists upon joining Jane on the trip.

Little does he know how quickly their friendship will develop into love.

Their young love is soon put to the test by a treacherous tenant of Jane's former home, who fans the flames of jealousy that ignite Robert's intense emotions.

Can their love conquer the emotions that threaten to tear them apart?

What a fascinating conclusion to the Dukes of Lear trilogy! In My Dearest Friend, Statham has done what she knows how to do best: create characters you care about and wish to see conquer all in the name of love.

Robert is not only coping with the loss of his younger brother. This man of intense emotions was also once done wrong by a member of the fairer sex, making him certain not to be played the fool again. He does not expect to be drawn to Jane so deeply, but he won't let his love blind him. Jane is an independent, strong heroine, who is determined to succeed in her mission, despite the many obstacles that stand in her way. She is surprised by the level of assistance the Duke provides, but is thankful to have him along. When a former tenant creates problems between her and Robert, she's determined to be loyal to the man she loves.

My Dearest Friend is such a sweet romance. There are passionate moments, but the door is closed before things get too far, leaving the reader to explore the possibilities within her imagination. Statham has been steadfast in keeping her romances clean so that they my be enjoyed by a wide audience. I appreciate that about her work, knowing I don't have to be afraid to share her books with others.

This is a superb Regency romance that many will enjoy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rollercoaster 15 Sep 2014

This book started out on a bad note with the Duke hustling a young lord out of his fortune at cards, but he was in his way teaching the young man a lesson-that unfortunately was ignored. Then we got to see him grieve the death of his younger brother and take on the burden of responsibility for his death. Enter Jane with a request that the Duke help her retrieve her injured brother who served in the same unit as the Duke's own brother. The retrieval mission blossomed from their to include a niece the Duke was unaware of- and much more action and scandal once they returned home. Definitely a page-turner.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gorgeous 4 April 2014

This book was absolutely wonderful. A lovely Regency Romance that spanned several themes. It began as a traveling book, then a country manor book, and finally something of a London book. But at all times it was elegant, lively, and witty. The emotions, especially those of the hero were raw and beautiful. The prose was enchanting, the characters were engaging, and the historical details were spot on. The whole thing was extremely well-written and researched. A Fantastic read. Very very highly recommended for all Regency Romance lovers.
