Book Description

4 Nov 2004
Children's Laureate, prize-winning author and originator of 'Farms for City Children', Michael Morpurgo has written over 90 books. He is a recipient of the Whitbread Children's Book Award, the Smarties Prize and the Children's Book Award. This book looks at the world of Michael Morpurgo, his childhood, how he began to write, and the people, the stories and the landscapes that have influenced his work. It examines the books themselves, drawing together common themes and encouraging the reader to read further for themselves. It also includes a section on the development of a book, answering some of those questions that Michael is frequently asked, 'where do you get your ideas from?' or 'how long does it take to produce a book?' There is even a previously unpublished story - a real treat from the pen of the Children's Laureate.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Story of a Story Teller 18 Jun 2011
By Lincs Reader TOP 100 REVIEWER VINE™ VOICE
Format:Paperback
How perfect that the biography of Michael Morpurgo; one of the best authors of children's stories is written for children. Anyone who enjoys the wonderful books that Michael Morporgu writes will love this refreshing look at his life.
Probably aimed at readers aged 9 and upwards, it will be enjoyed by his adult fans too.
Geoff Fox has portrayed this wonderful storyteller so well, the style of the book is that of a story too. Starting with Morpurgo's early life and his experience at boarding school which played a very big part in his adult life and especially in some of his novels. The second part of the book concentrates on Morpurgo's novels, what made him write them, how he plans his writing and how he gets the feel for his characters and the settings of the stories.
Tucked away at the back of the book is a previously unpublished short story called 'The Story That Wrote Itself' as an added bonus.
I enjoyed finding out about of of my favourite authors and I think children will love this book too. Geoff Fox has made Morpurgo's story almost as exciting as one of his novels
