Product Description

Book One of the bestselling Loving Husband Trilogy - "Her Dear and Loving Husband is a riveting thriller, highly recommended." (Midwest Book Review)

Meredith Allard's internationally beloved Loving Husband Trilogy begins here with Her Dear and Loving Husband. Professor James Wentworth has a paranormal secret he struggles to hide in his quiet life in Salem, Massachusetts. One night his private world is turned upside down when he meets librarian Sarah Alexander. Sarah is haunted by nightmares about the Salem Witch Trials, and she is awakened by visions of hangings and dying in jail. As James comes to terms with his feelings for Sarah, he must dodge accusations from a reporter desperate to prove that James is not who, or what, he seems to be. Do vampires, witches, and werewolves lurk in Salem? And will James make the ultimate sacrifice to protect Sarah and prevent a new hunt from bringing hysteria to Salem once again?

Evoking comparisons to Deborah Harkness' All Souls Trilogy, Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles, and HBO's True Blood, Her Dear and Loving Husband is a story for anyone who believes that true love never dies.

The Loving Husband Trilogy:
Book One - Her Dear and Loving Husband
Book Two - Her Loving Husband's Curse
Book Three - Her Loving Husband's Return

All three books of the trilogy are now available.

4.0 out of 5 stars Well Crafted 2 Mar 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I originally picked this as one of my DSOA picks back in April 2013 (therefore it was a free Kindle download at the time), just after the death of my much loved Father in Law, purely because of the title.

It's taken me this long to get around to ticking it off my 'To Read List' though.

All things considered it was an extremely well crafted story and thoroughly enjoyable. Decent plot and pace and interesting characters. Actually, having just popped over to Amazon to check the details for listing I noticed a small strap line that indicates Meredith teaches creative writing. No surprise then that it turned out to be a well crafted piece of work.

Not to give plot spoilers away, if you love the Vampiric, you will love this.

I also just happened to notice a small strap line that says Meredith teaches creative writing, no surprise then that it was well crafted.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not what I expected ... 20 Nov 2013
By Lorraine Sears TOP 1000 REVIEWER
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Such a strange book. From the blurb and the cover I believed I would be reading a chilling story of lost love reconnected through the paranormal. But not so... Her Dear & Loving Husband is a story of romance through the ages. Of two souls that bridge the centuries to find each other again.

Based in Salem, Massachusetts, the world renown home of witchery and the paranormal, this story includes witches, vampires, a cameo werewolf and the spirit of a dead woman re-awoken in (possibly) her descendant. I've never read anything quite like it. It's not paranormal romance in the traditional and steamy sense, but its also not a thrilling in the scary sense. It's a ... paranormal love story.

The book was entertaining, but with so many paranormal factors involved there were occasions when it felt just a little too contrived. And times when I couldn't decide if it was trying to be humorous or serious. The main character also had a tendency to dither which made for a frustrating read at times. And there were a few unanswered questions that I'd like to have seen covered.

I am still torn as to whether I kept reading because I really enjoyed it, or because I wanted to see how the whole thing would play out. So overall I've scored it three stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stunning! 19 Aug 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
`Her Dear and Loving Husband' was a stunning novel, and a heart-warming journey to read.

Infused with a beautiful and heart-warming love story, this book is a definite must for everyone who believes that true love never dies, even after the death of the body. `Her Dear and Loving Husband' tells the beautiful spiritual tale of love after death and having a second chance with the one you love.

I loved the characters that I was introduced to throughout the novel, and I really felt connected to Sarah as she struggles to make a place for herself in Salem after the breakdown of her marriage, and sympathised with her desire to avoid making any romantic connections for the foreseeable future.

I can't say how impressed I was with the cleverly written dreams that Sarah has. Meredith Allard presented a realistic, and scary image of the Salem Witch Trials, and these sequences were brilliantly contrasted with the writing style of the present day action. The voices and speech of the past was clearly well researched, and made the reading experience so much more believable, and making me feel as though I was actually there in that era. Brilliantly done!

I loved the elements of fantasy that were introduced throughout the novel, which although made up a large part of the story, what with our discovery of James' true form, and Jennifer and Olivia's true powers, didn't seem forced or unrealistic. Not once when reading this book did I think that the fantasy elements were taken too far, and I really admire the author for being able to balance the fantasy and contemporary storylines so well.

The spiritual past life elements were spoken of in a way that made the idea of past lives seem not only possible, but probable.

5.0 out of 5 stars Riveting! 12 April 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
What a wonderful book, I could not put it down,I read this book in 2 days! I woke in the night wondering where the story was going to take me next and could not sleep again until I had read some more.
I am already hungry for the next novel.
Hats off to the author,I read a lot of books but rarely do I find one that pulls me in as hard and fast as this one did.
I was not merely reading a story I felt like I had known each and every character my whole life,I was in the pages with them living each moment good and bad. Awesome!

4.0 out of 5 stars fantastic mix of different genres 28 Aug 2013
By Heidi
Format:Kindle Edition
I loved the mix of different genres this novel encompasses (from historical fiction to paranormal fantasy). Her Dear & Loving Husband captured my attention throughout the whole book,

The author has a real talent for character description. Both James and Sarah are amazing characters who both battle with their own problems yet are so connected to one another.

This book evoked so many different emotions in me. I was crying when I first read about James' loss and I was rather spooked out by Sarah's nightmares. The depiction of the Salem Witch Trials was very well done but there was slightly too much "gore" for my liking.

I loved the "tagline" of the book: True love never dies. The plot of this novel is interestingly designed and gives room for speculation and imagination and the ending prepares the readers for the books to come.
