If you're wondering how to better use your power tools and plant machinery then the gloriously gruesome My Dear Killer is a stylish horror thriller that's better than any product demonstration video!

When you want to guarantee death only a bulldozer will do as Police Inspector Peretti (George Hilton) discovers when he investigates a headless body that's recently lost a fight with a digger. As he further excavates into the case Peretti discovers a disturbing link with the murder of a young girl, but the further he delves the more the bodies pile up as the killer embarks on a murderous trail of DIY devastation.

This is the only Giallo thriller that spaghetti western director Tonino Valerii made but in one attempt he created an absorbingly complex and delightfully twisted take on the genre that's delivered with flair and considerable tension.

My Dear Killer (cert. 18) is released on DVD by Shameless Screen Entertainment. The film is presented remastered in 2.35:1 with English 2.0 sound, in region 0. Also included on the disc is a Shameless original trailer gallery and the DVD comes presented with a reversible classic artwork sleeve.

5.0 out of 5 stars My Dear Killer 6 Oct 2010
Following a mysterious decapitation of an insurance investigator, Police Inspector Peretti (George Hilton) is put onto the case. As things turn out this killing is linked to the disappearance of a young and her father who were killed a year before.

This is a fine Giallo and in my opinion one of the best and ranks up there with the Dario Argento classics (such as Bird with the Crystal Plumange and Four Flies on Grey Velvet). George Hilton puts in a impressive performance as the lead inspector and I have to say I preferred him in this role over all the Spaghetti Westerns ive seen him in.

Director Tonino Valerii keeps the film going at a fast pace and it never gets boring and he is able to handle the slightly confusing plot very well. There isnt alot of gore in this film but there is one very violent death were a woman is sliced up by a mechanical saw and it looks very realistic. My favourite part of the film was the last scene were Hilton has all the suspects in a room and he slowly reveals who the killer is and I was on the edge of my seat as I waited for the killer to be unmasked.

The DVD has good quality but I found the night/dark sequences alittle hard to see what was going on.

5.0 out of 5 stars What a great film! 13 Jun 2008
By Daniel
Just watched this yesterday and I was very suprised to how good it was, great music, great plot and SOME gore. The tension of the film is fantastic and I don't normally get affected by this kind of thing but this film was amazing. The only thing not so good was that the story became quite complicated towards the end.

2.0 out of 5 stars My Dear Columbo 17 April 2014
I do wish Shameless would stop advertising crime movies as gory uncut horrors. It would help one's perception of a movie before viewing. Having said that My Dear Killer is quite a drag even for a thriller/suspense film. This one is a talkie- no problem with that but having been introduced to George Hilton who plays a detective from the first minute it is jarring after 67 minutes when he admits he has no idea who the killer is.

The acting is decent and the direction by Tonino Valerii better known for his Westerns is very good. There are some nice staged scenes, but all in all the movie doesn't grip you. One of its biggest failings is that it has a simple premise and then turns that into a complicated one, with layers of ideas and characters that are not needed.

The movie feels like an extended episode of Columbo with the odd gore moment thrown in. Believe me when I say that I have no idea why the BBFC have classified this as an 18. I do wonder if Shameless nudge nudge and wink wink hoping to get the 18 certificate to hype up their brand.

My Dear Killer is not a complete failure, it is watchable but ask yourself a genuine question, will you be coming back to view again?

3.0 out of 5 stars Good story average film 16 Jun 2013

Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
This film has a good story but somehow is filmed in a boring way so I give it 3 stars. The film also suffers for not having strong music which the best italian giallos have. George Hilton plays the investigating cop and is decent enough, but hardly his most charismatic performance. I would recommend checking out better Shameless giallos before this, such as the Strange Vice of Mrs Wardh. The end also left me a bit confused, it was like the director knew it was underwhelming and so quickly brushed over the conclusion which left me unsatisfied in a way which the best murder mystery movies don't. Worth a watch but don't expect a very fine example of the genre.
