Product Description

Product Description

In the UK a suicide occurs approximately every two hours, and The Samaritans answer one telephone call every 12 seconds. Drawing on The Samaritans' 40 years of experience, this book offers self-help strategies for coping with depressive states and aims to bring hope to the lives of the mentally ill and the despairing, as well as their friends and families. Published to coincide with Depression Week, it is about dealing with depression, coping with feelings of despair and loneliness, listening to oneself - or The Samaritans - and keeping feelings of suicide at bay.

5.0 out of 5 stars The only book you need, 27 July 2001
This review is from: Dealing with Depression: Whatever You're Going Through, the Samaritans Will Go Through it with You (Paperback)
I dealt with depression earlier this year, and had read many other books on depression. None, however, offered the supporting, yet factual tones of this book. Phrases like "well done for picking up this book" and "you do not have to go through this alone" helped me to feel that there might be a light at the end of the tunnel, which is hard to believe when suffering from depression. As well as this, stories of people who have overcome difficulties in this area further consolidate the feelings of hope that you get when you read this book. While others books give practical solutions, this helps to give an emotional slant in as far as books can, and I highly recommend it to anyone who is unfortunate enough to be suffering from depression.

5.0 out of 5 stars from personal experience this is a life changing book, 20 Feb 2002
This review is from: Dealing with Depression: Whatever You're Going Through, the Samaritans Will Go Through it with You (Paperback)
With a depressive illness, the worst symptom is the feeling of isolation, this book helps you realise that you are far from alone and ables you to live with depression rather than fighting it. There is also a valuable chapter explaining the devestation that suicide leaves behind and that 'the world is not a better place without you'.
