Product Description

"When my father died, we didn't have a clue what to do." How many others find themselves in a similar predicament when someone close to them dies? Because death is something we prefer not to discuss, even when it is imminent, most of us are totally unprepared to deal with it when it happens. Who should take charge when someone dies? Who needs to be informed of the death? How do you set about arranging the funeral? What role does the undertaker play? What happens to the deceased's property and other assets? Do you know the answers to all these questions? Eventually you will find out, but how much better it would be if you have a clearer idea of what to expect before it happens. At an already difficult and stressful time, you will be able to handle the process and make decisions with greater confidence and clarity if you are at least prepared for the practicalities surrounding your loss.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Friend in Need, 7 Mar 2010

Bereavement can knock you sideways but sideways or not you have probably suddenly got a lot to do and think about. At such a time this extremely practical book can be a welcome friend and adviser, especially if your memory is not what it was. I would recommend anyone who is deciding it is time they looked facts in the face to give it a read. It will take away some of the worry

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb - plan now!, 28 Nov 2011

It may be a little dated (happily I am in the planning stage not the experience for real stage, yet) but this is a personal experience how to cope with sorting out the mess after a death (and how to plan ahead and avoid a mess). Firstly it gave me a clue to a great pdf document (search for terms "instructions for my next of kin and executors upon my death" which was originally published by Age Concern. (fill it in and it tells you where all the documents are and whether the person in question wants a cremation - which you have to tell the doctor immediately you ask for a death certificate!).

This is much better book to inspire you to have a go than the Which book (which positively tries to dissuade you from applying for probate personally, even in straightforward circumstances).

(The Which book has a bit more information for the variations in "multicultural" funerals than this book, but goodness me, if you don't know how to run a Jedi funeral, then you're going to need a completely different book!)

5.0 out of 5 stars A helpful book for difficult circumstances, 9 April 2011
This review is from: Dealing with Death, Funerals, Wills and Bereavement: What to Do When Someone Dies - A Practical Guide (Paperback)
This is a really straightforward and easy to read book for a difficult time. I read it after a close friend died because I realised I would have no idea where to start. Unfortunately, I was to need it sooner than I'd hoped. It provides a useful step by step guide to all aspects of dealing with a death as well as tips for preparation for death.
