Product Description

Review

'Perfect for our sceptical times, this book will demonstrate to any open-minded reader that, contrary to Dawkins' atheistic claims, biblical Christianity is reliable and relevant, powerful and persuasive.' --Prof. Edgar Andrews, BSc, PhD, Dsc., FlnstP, FIMMM, CEng, CPhys., Emeritus Professor of Materials at the University of London.

Product Description

John Blanchard has produced yet another winner. This time he engages with the so-called "new atheism" promoted by Richard Dawkins in his books 'The God Delusion' and 'The greatest show on earth'. He concisely but clearly outlines Dawkins' views and arguments, and deftly demonstrates how shallow and illogical they often are, then provides God-centred alternatives that are altogether superior. Blanchard tackles such subjects as the importance but limitations of science, the origin and significance of morality and Dawkins' abysmal ignorance of theology and the Bible. He then goes on to explain the nature of true faith before ending with a clear presentation of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

I'll admit that it must be difficult to write a short work rebutting anything whilst still keeping that work accessible. It cannot, though, be made easier by a lack of focus either on the arguments you are seeking to rebut or on your own counter arguments. What you really need to do is encapsulate the argument you're trying to rebut and then show where it's gone wrong. Blanchard does neither.

Three examples:

Blanchard quotes bits of the "proof beyond all doubt" and "proof beyond reasonable doubt" distinction in the opening chapter of The Greatest Show on Earth without clearly stating it. Blanchard then argues against evolution as "beyond reasonable doubt" by quoting Dawkins using "proof beyond all doubt" in another context on a wider subject.

Blanchard criticises Dawkins for trying to base arguments in the improbability of God. But Dawkins simply does no such thing. Dawkins uses probability to *characterise* his attitude to God not to *determine* it.

Blanchard attacks Dawkins criticisms of the behaviours caused by religions. His counter argument is that Christianity would like its followers to behave differently.

Throughout all this is the irritating attitude that to quote the Bible is relevant in an argument against an atheist. In a book of less than ninety pages we could do without biblical quotes and references crowding out actual arguments about the actual matter at hand.

All in all, far from dealing with Dawkins this book fails even to engage with him.

The Dawkins debate 21 Jun 2011
By Jim R
Format:Paperback
This is an excellent book in helping deal with Dawkins arguments against Christianity and even the flaws of his own arguments within evolution itself. John Blanchard has written this book in a very graceful manner as he does all his books like "Has Science got rid of God?". He makes the subjects very clear and understandable for the everyone. Highly recommended

The other reviewer who thinks that this author failed to debunk Dawkins because he is NOT A SCIENTIST is very much mistaken, because many SCIENTISTS have already debunked Mr. Dawkins scientifically from all over the world. But the author has very successfully debunked this atheist Dawkins morally and religiously.
That reviewer also got his facts completely wrong because according to the great physicist Stephen Hawkins; the universe is more than 14 billion years old. Also the Bible never stated how old was the universe, he obiously needs to read the Bible.
What the author advocates is that the world Dawkins preaches is an immoral and corrupt world, void even of any rules. Dawkins has went as far as renting a bus to tour Britain having advertised a slogan on that buss to convince people to behave irrespictive of any religious decency because there is no God, while Dawkins CAN NOT produce any scientific prove of the none existence of God.
The author also brings to the light (as mentioned above) that although he can not cliam to be a scientist (though he is obviously a very knowledgable person) but he has enlisted the scientists, who are many of them also happened to be athiests, who have very scientifically completely bebunked Dawkins weak and baseless notion of why the evolution theory deny God's existence. I happened to be scientifically qualified and agree with them.
The author very successfully proved that Richard Dawkins is a man obsessed mentally for some personal causes with the idea of destroying GOD, and he could never succeed.
I congratulate the author on his efforts and thank him for it.
