Ive just been going through watching both Capital City boxsets on DVD and felt withdrawl symptoms when it finished. So I bought this film as a follow up. The film has a slightly inferior feel to it although worth watching no less.

It centres on a thrusting city trader who lives in a mansion along the Thames and flies in by seaplane every morning to his dealer job. Bank appoints buxom blonde beauty known for her results to work along side him. The film focuses on the power struggles/love-lust affair coupled with a generous sprinkling of sackings of people less competent and efficient, the entireity of which revolves around the desire to make squillions of pounds for the bank which can be just as easily lost in a wrong transaction the following day.

What was good about the film?

Great TV for reminiscing about the late 80s,- a great trip down memory lane.

Nice to look at the fashions and hair styles of those times which people were wearing.

Scenes of and around the City of London's financial district (Pre-dating the Gherkin) which I happen to know quite well.

Having lived in those times and aspiring to be a trader like this, the film captures the pointlessness of seeing numbers on a screen move up and down coupled with the frivolity of the lives of the people concerned either spending their money ostentatiously or hopping from bed to bed.

Some of the acting was very good.

What was bad about it?

Well to me I thought the film had a cheap feel to it.

I would have preferred a slightly more intelligent story line, maybe dwelling more on the futility of it all because the truth is that no real money is ever created in the city of London. It is a zero sum game. The wins and profit you make comes directly out of the pockets of those who have lost money and to cap it all 95% of traders always lose money! Sad but true.

The music score could have been a touch better too, because it was heavily reliant on the electro dit-dit dah-dah beat all too prevalent in those heady days.

Still a good watch though if you are interested in money and markets and all that goes with dealing in markets. If you have no interest in that kind of thing then you would do well to give it a miss.

Set in the early 90's it is a movie of money making and ' high rollers ' of the stock exchange. Shown on the cinema circuit, made by ITV, it is a interesting film, and helps pass a few hours. A low budget which reflects on the production side if you take into account the likes of Wall Street 1 & 2. In general, a good movie for the setting its in - the early 90's. I enjoyed it for the content within.
