About the Author

Robert Agar-Hutton was born in London, England in 1953.

He left school at age seventeen to enter the accountancy profession and at the same age he started what has ever since been a major interest in the history and practice of the martial and health arts.

In 1977 after seven years of working as an accountant for others, he founded his own accountancy practice. He started using computers in his accountancy practice and three years later he gave up accountancy and moved into selling, supporting and writing software for personal computers.

In 1987 he started Protectics to teach courses in aggression, violence and stress management. The fundamental principle of all Protectics training is that it should be practical and easy to learn. Verbal aggression management training utilises research into inter-personal behaviour, linguistics, stress management, and many other fields.

His accomplishments and interests are extremely varied ranging from science fiction to hard science, practical first aid to Reiki, Photography to Internet marketing strategies. He is a fellow of the Association of Financial Accountants, a member of the Institute of Programmers and Analysts, and a member of the Institute of Conflict Management. He has a third degree black belt in Karate and is an instructor of Tai Chi.

Robert also gives after-dinner speeches and lectures on the subjects of aggression and stress management.

Most importantly (to him) he has been happily married since 1981 and has three children who fill his life with interest, excitement and a regular opportunity to practice his stress and aggression management skills.

1.0 out of 5 stars Daylight robbery, 2 Aug 2010
This review is from: How to Deal with Verbal Aggression (Paperback)
You would have to assume that any positive reviews for this book were written either by the author or a relative. There isn't even the attempt at some form of high-school psychology which would assist you in such circumstances. Anyone over the age of 13 could have written this. What were the publishers thinking? The silly cover says it all.

2.0 out of 5 stars Little Help for Real Life Verbal Aggression, 23 Jun 2010
By
H. C. Traveller (Guildford, Surrey United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This review is from: How to Deal with Verbal Aggression (Paperback)
The cover illustration shows a man of highly aggressive appearance (expression, body language and clothing) and the book implies that the techniques supplied will help the reader to deal with this type of individual. They won't.

The contents will not help the reader to deal, for example, with bullies, "neighbours from hell", yobs or bigots i.e. those most likely to be verbally aggressive. The book is primarily geared to workplace encounters and there is little that is new in the techniques in this thin publication.

As is usual with such books, it assumes that both parties are actually playing by the same rules and that one side is only temporarily angry. Therein lies the problem - both sides are usually playing by different rules without common ground.

Even if the reader uses some of the perfectly sensible techniques, such an approach is not going to be effective in the real world where many verbally aggressive individuals either don't know or don't care about decent behaviour.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must for anyone dealing with verbally aggressive poeple, 1 Oct 2003
This review is from: How to Deal with Verbal Aggression (Paperback)
I run an Anger Management Training Company, and am always interested in looking at things from a different perspective to enable me to incorporate differing approaches into my training courses.

This Book is one of the best that i have found on the subject of dealing with verbal aggression. It is a simple no frills approach to what can be a very difficult subject. i particularly liked the fact that it serves as an interactive workbook, making it ideal to use with groups of people where the training is spread over several training sessions, however it would equally just as usefull for intensive training.

It is written in a format that is easy to understand, and is a constant source of reference. It is available in e-book format which i find very useful.

I would highly reccomend this book to anyone who is likely to come into contact with verbally aggressive poeple.
