The Amazon review gives an excellent account of the first season so I won't go in to the plot but I will say that this has to be the best drama round today.First be warned, if you are of a delicate nature, the language is strong, the violence is brutal. Let's be honest Deadwood was violent and brutal. Doris Day riding the Deadwood Stage this is not. After the initial shock of the florid yet brilliantly colourful vernacular, the acting, characters, story lines, set and everything in between is of the highest standard.

I personally would give this dvd box set 6 stars. For one 'Deadwood' was a fantastic show. Released on Sky One last september 2004, it featured such fantastic acting and compelling story lines i was instantly hooked on the show. The characters in 'Deadwood' were obviously very well though out, because they are very convincing of a person living in the late 1800's. Ian Mcshanes part playing the evil business minded Al Swearengen, was exceptional. The man knows everything that is going off in 'Deadwood', and regularly takes law and order into his own hands. Basically becuase there is no law and order, people are genrally free to do whatever they like. And if you cross Al's path, you genrally found yourself in the capable hands of Mr Wu's pigs! Other characters such as Trxie, Al's favorite prostitue.EB, who is Al's lap dog and does his dirty work. Calamity Jane the kind hearted drunk who was infatuated with Wild Bill Hickok whos performance is legandary. All these chacters and many many more make up this town, and to say the least this is one of the best, if not thee best tv shows in along time to be on television. I cannot wait for the second series which starts in March 2005.

It will open your eyes,

Gritty, disturbing and down right enlightening, Deadwood shows human nature at it's very worst with a painfully down to earth approach that is frankly shocking. Do not watch it if you're easily offended but if you can handle the language and the sometimes horribly realistic portrayal of frontier life then this show is more than worth the watch. Less of a western more of an epiphany, Deadwood tells you exactly how the West was really won. It's not to be missed.
