More About the Author

Victor Gischler lives in Skiatook, Oklahoma among the scorpions and the cowpokes. He teaches creative writing at Rogers State University. His crime-writing heroes are Scott Phillips, James Crumley, and John D. MacDonald. Warren Zevon, Abba and Frank Sinatra make his toe tap. Boy bands and most other pop make him reach for his Webley revolver (and/or his double-barrel shotgun). He digs BLADE RUNNER because it blends sci-fi and noir, IN HARM'S WAY because it blends Otto Preminger with John Wayne and KILL BILL because it makes nice people cry.

Victor's first novel, Gun Monkeys, was nominated for the Edgar Award.

This was the first Deadpool volume I purchased, after being recommended to buy by a friend. Who also introduced me to the Marvel Zombies series. I wasn't dissapointed on either recommendations.

The book collects the entire series of "Deadpool: Merc With A Mouth #1-13." for a great read.
The collecttion centres round a multidimensional sprint that introduces a number of rather amusing alternate-universe Deadpools and arrives at great climax in the Marvel Zombieverse.

The illustrations are for lack of a better word, beautiful. With each alternate universe getting it's own unique style. The schizophrenic narrative is extremely funny at times, with pop-culture references, pool-o-vision and the breaking-down of the fourth wall just adding to the enjoyment.
I'd really reccomend this to anyone who has thought about getting a Deadpool book, but didn't know where to start.
I'd also advise checking out the Marvel Zombies series too, but I'll review them seperately.

Thanks for reading!

Beware of where this book leads....cause there's some choas in the Marvel universe regarding Deadpool right now. He's a hot mutated potato climbing into everything he can get his gruby hands on....well more like he's some kind of cancerous growth out of control, spawning new titles like no ones business. And this title, is no exception.

As a sort of pre-prequel to Deadpool Corps, this title isn't neccesary for storyline continuity (unless like me you hate not knowing the nth degree of intricacy in a story). The art work I shan't comment on as I'm no artist nor comic officionado. I do like the storyline. It is good and Zombie Deadpool head really does steal the whole comedy show away from everyone else. However, the last part of the story kindof lets it down, but aside from that it's very funny and occasionally gritty at times. Not one but two Deadpools for the price of one.

Excellent Deadpool Book 12 Nov. 2010
By David Keith - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover Verified Purchase
Deadpool is a unique character in the Marvel universe. He talks to the reader. He's insane with split personalities, and psychotic brutal bloodthirsty behavior. He's the worst of all anti-heroes. Plus, he's supposed to be funny. He's a difficult character to pull off successfully. Most titles with Deadpool are flat-out failures.

This collection, however, succeeds wonderfully. The book is self-contained, a rare treat among monthly comic books. You don't really have to know much about Deadpool to enjoy this book. The writing is perfect, great plot and real nice artwork. And it's funny.

Good a place to start if you're interested in Deadpool. Recommended.

A Marvel N00b's Review 31 Dec. 2011
By Brent Weeks - Published on Amazon.com

I definitely missed some of the inside jokes intended for those intimately familiar with the Marvelverse--but I laughed out loud at least four times and grinned or chuckled quite a few more. I could tell that Gischler was having a hell of a time writing this series. It was flat-out fun. Cheesy at times, crazy, and genre-bending with DeadPool talking to his other-other self and breaking the fourth wall by pointing out that you're on page 7. I've read less than a dozen graphic novels, so I'm no expert, but this was just pure enjoyment. Makes me want to read more of Deadpool (see, I don't even know what parts of that name you capitalize!), and it makes me want to read more Victor Gischler.

"I have to use the little Merc's room" 28 April 2010
By Thomas A. Zulli - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
This has to be the best team up in the history of comics. Deadpool teaming up with.....Deadpool. This takes place after the events of Marvel Zombies 4 #4 (although #1 was released before the issue came out). Deadpool has been hired by A.I.M to go to the Savage Land to pick up a Bio weapon. There along with Dr. Betty, Deadpool finds what the weapon is....He zombiefied decapitated version of himself from an alternate....and he is as annoying as he is. Now the Deadpools and Dr. Betty have to get off the Savage Land while escaping cavemen, zombie cavemen, dinosaurs and a zombie T-Rex.

Now this is a great series, that I was sad to hear will only last 13 issues. But any fan of Deadpool, Marvel Zombies or comics in general should get this.

New-to-comics: I love this book 28 Sept. 2011
By Apollo - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover
I picked this up as a present for my brother and naturally read it when he was done. This is the first Deadpool comic I ever read and it's absolutely HILARIOUS. Don't let a lack of Marvel background knowledge scare you away, either... although it may get you hooked on Deadpool (I'm getting all the paperbacks now).

Not only is this book hilarious, but it has some great action scenes as well. The writing is great, and it is paired with detailed and colorful illustrations that make Deadpool look as awesome as ever. If you like comic books, you'll love this.
