Great little gift book 14 April 2010
By Olly
Format:Paperback
Deadly Peril (and how to avoid it) is an informative and often amusing book containing many of the common, uncommon and downright obscure ways to die horribly.

This blackly humourous book contains such diverse topics as Earthquakes, Black Widow spiders, Great White Sharks, Falling Coconuts and the seemly innocous but deadly peril of Getting Dressed. Detailing each peril across 2 pages, covering what can happen and usefully how to avoid it. Almost all perils are extremely rare eg. being struck by Lightning, but every topic is dealt in an entertaining way.

As you will discover when reading Deadly Peril, there are many exotic ways to die and if they involve animals almost all of them can run faster than humans. And even if you can run fast, there is no guarantee you will not get struck on the head by a falling coconut or spontaneously combust.

To Sum Up: An excellent little gift book for all ages that you will probably end up reading yourself.

BRILLIANT READ! 7 Dec 2009
Format:Paperback
This book is so entertaining. I bought it as a xmas present for a 12 year old boy (in desperation!) and could not put it down long enough to wrap it! I have ordered one for myself too now. It is amusing, informative and more than a little bizarre but completely unique and very enjoyable.

Entertaining Read, That Teaches You Stuff Too! 13 Feb 2010
By James N Simpson - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
Deadly Peril is very similar size, format and content wise to survival guide books out there with a pinch of humour. It's not as funny as The Action Hero's Handbook: How to Catch a Great White Shark, Perform the Vulcan Nerve Pinch, Track a Fugitive, and Dozens of Other TV and Movie Skills but is still very entertaining. The advice inside if you actually were caught in a situation and had no idea how to deal with it may well save your life. However as the author's point out with most of the peril's unless you deliberately put yourself into a situation the odds of ever experiencing the peril or having the peril try and kill you is pretty remote. There's enough in here that isn't in Action Hero's Handbook that it's worth while getting both.

With a few perils they haven't fully researched where you'll find the peril and don't give all locations such as Black Widow Spider no mention of Australia where it's known as the Redback spider. In other listings such as Death Stalker Scorpion maybe it would have been better to just broadly use poisonous scorpion rather than a specific one but these are only minor faults.

Inside this book you'll learn how to deal with or avoid the following perils.

Menace from the Deep
- Box Jellyfish
- Great White Shark
- Blue-ringed Octopus
- Cone Snail
- Piranha
- Electric Eel
- Stonefish
