Just read this. I'm a lifelong Villa fan. I'm also an accountant. As such I've always stood by Doug for the way he's looked after Villa's finances. It's clearly the right thing for any business to live within its means. Anything less is irresponsible. Clubs like Portsmouth that go into administration leave a lot of creditors being unpaid and that means players, directors and other clubs.
However, the book is another matter. There's about 90% about Doug's achievements and about 10% about football. He has been a great success in business, there's no doubt, but a little modesty wouldn't go amiss. He seems to hold a certain amount of contempt for Villa fans, who hardly get a mention. He seems to include us all along with the 2 who abused John Gregory from behind the dugout and a few children who picked on Brian Little's kids at school. If you really want this book, please let me know. You can have my copy.
