This was Peckinpah's first feature, a superbly crafted and influential work that has been well reviewed elsewhere, so rather than praise up the film itself, I'll take a blast at this truly cynical DVD presentation.
If you must buy it, then don't give more than a quid, because all you'll get is a hazy impression of what this great movie ought to be!
Its in full frame and the print is fuzzy, muddy and some of the night scenes look like monochrome, doing no justice at all to William Clothier's wonderful cinematography. Even the packaging deceives - a naff lash up with Bran Keith and Steve Cochran's heads photoshopped onto a posed scene that isn't from the film!
All of Peckinpah's subsequent work has quite rightly been given the full comprehensive treatment, but this travesty is just awful.
Please, let's have a restored, pristine print in the proper format with an informed commentary and extras giving this minor classic the respect it deserves.
