Product Description

Product Description

A Los Angeles psychiatrist is given an ultimatum that he cannot refuse - to divulge sensitive information on a candidate nominated by the President for US Attorney-General, or else. Refusal to comply carries with it deadly consequences. --This text refers to the Hardcover edition.

From the Author

What This Book is Really About
Ignore the bland book description above. DEADLINE is a thriller about a man placed in a perilous life-threatening situation, an ordinary man dragged out of his element and thrust into a world he barely understands, a world that makes him desperate, a world in which he has to change to survive. Nothing is the way it seems. The storyline twists at every turn. One surprise follows another another, even as time is running out for our hero, Lomax...In the end, he surprises even himself, in a climax that is unexpected and dramatic. --This text refers to the Hardcover edition.

This writer is consistently underrated, which is a shame. Whether he needs more publicity or more advertising, I don't know, but he deserves to be up there in all the best-seller lists. He writes sexy books, with flair and style, and his characterizations are usually close to the bone. Deadline (terrible title) is a case in point. He takes the reader on a roller coaster trip through one shock into another, and just when you think you've got the end worked out, he twists it again. And it's all plausible. Check it out, I urge you - a great ride into treachery, political and sexual.

I'm a huge fan of Campbell Armstrong, and I'm always keen to sing the praises of his books, particularly the Jig trilogy. "Deadline", however, ambles predictably from an exhausted plot device towards a weak denouement. This is not classic Campbell, but maybe it was my fault for reading his outstanding "All That Really Matters" before this...

Good entertainment 11 Nov 2007
By HORAK
Format:Paperback
One day Jerry Lomax, a Los Angeles psychiatrist, receives a phone call from an unidentified caller. He wants the confidential psychiatric records of one of Jerry's patients, a former district attorney named Emily Ford. She is about to be nominated by the American President for the post of Attorney General. Emily Ford has revealed a secret to Jerry Lomax in the course of their therapy sessions, a secret which, in the hands of her enemies, could destroy her career.
Jerry Lomax is bound by the ethics of his profession to refuse to accept the caller's request. But he can't refuse when he is presented with a cold ultimatum. The caller has taken something of Jerry's, something he cherishes very dearly indeed, and if he doesn't hand over the documents by 10 pm that night, he will have to live with the consequences.
Good suspense, good entertainment.
