I have all 9 seasons and am totally disappointed with the Scottish narrator. The feel of the show changes and having waited ages for the release, I'm gutted.
I don't see why you cannot have an audio option and choose between both narrator's. The show itself is as good and compelling as ever. This obviously is my preference and only wish that the full details were shown in the product description. It is my opinion that the narrators style has no feel or excitement the show deserves.

I hesitated based on some of the negative comments to buy season 9, but in fact it is good as ever! The Scottish commentator doesn't really disturb, in fact he is doing an excellent job. If you watched Trawlerman, you will be used to Scottish anyway. I am looking forward to further seasons, whether with the American or the Scottish commentator. Unreserved recommendation.

I'm a huge fan of Ax Men, Deadliest Catch etc and in full agreement with the reviews below. Shows of this nature need the excitement and drama portrayed through American commentary which, Mike Rowe and Thom Beers always deliver successfully. Regarding this latest season, DVD release within the US is not available as yet with download option only so I'm in two minds whether to keep the DVD or return. The narration disappointed me to the extent that as soon as I heard the voice, ejected the disc and returned it to its box. This situation has also reared its head during the Ax Men seasons, forcing me to purchase and pay more for the US import.

I am a huge fan and have all the previous boxsets, this new series didn't let me down! The narrator did not change it at all for me, it took me a while to notice it was a different person.

This was bought for my daughter but as I know she loves the series I can safely give it a good score.

Been following this Series for nearly a decade. As gripping as ever. Every ounce of human drama, pride, determination, sadness, world weariness, exhilaration.
On paper this shouldn't work - 9 seasons x 8 hours of lowering metal cages over the side of a boat and pulling them back up again.
But it does - why? Because people identify with the sheer guts it takes to earn a living both in Alaska but, truth be told, in the modern world everywhere.
All these guys want to do is support their families, those they love, get the job done and go home to their wives, girlfriends, children.
Like we all do - same story, same brotherhood the world over.
It never tires - because these guys have little strands of what we see or would like to see in ourselves.
Guts and drive.

No idea how this series maintains the same high adrenaline, the same high standards year in year out but it does, season after season.
Im sure anyone who has been following these guys for a decade coming here now and seeing EIGHT instant posts all ONE STAR, all short, all written in a similar style, all harping on about the same TOTAL IRRELEVANCY, a commentator's voice (yes, can you believe it) for Christ's sake; Get a life, you hardly notice it. He's not that bad, just different and the fishermen themselves are speaking most of the time anyway. It's like being at the Last Supper and complaining abut the place mats. Me? I smell something VERY fishy (yeh, sorry, unintentional pun) about so many one stars for a five star series, all whining about ABSOLUTELY nothing. Plainly the authors of these diatribes would NOT last long even as "greenhorns" on these boats if they are so "upset" about someone's voice. As I said, get real and get a life - but above all get Season 9.
