5.0 out of 5 stars Some reviews 27 May 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
In the absence of any other reviews, and with little to add, I am happy to include two reviews from elswhere;

Firstly;
"Let me start by saying that even if you are not a Zombie novel afficiando, this book is well worth reading if you love, adventure, suspense, romance, and well written characters.
Author Sue Edgerly has constructed an exciting story which really kept me on the edge of my seat, and made it impossible for me to put this book down.
The Zombie apocalypse is a background for a heart wrenching story of a woman who pushes herself to extraordinary lengths, and does things she would have once considered unthinkable, and impossible in order to save her family.
Any person with children, or a strong love and dedication to their family can empathize with the character of Lori as she does whatever is necessary to ensure her family's survival.
The truthful emotions and actions of all of the characters involved, give this story an air of credibility that is unusual in novel of this type.
I think Sue Edgerly has a bright literary future, and I look forward to her next work."

This is the second;

"This is very good, very good indeed ! I havn't read a better piece of Zombie apocalypse for a very long time. From the moment of outbreak to the moment of breaking out and escape the author deivers a constant frenetic, frantic story of flight and fight.

She never lets up on the pace and horror, never frightened to sacrifice a character laboriously developed (always a good sign of an authors 'honesty'), never sparing in her desription of the terror. The only complaint is the nascent love story for which the end is always too clear in coming - but other than that a great piece of work.

Authors this good need encouragement so do so by reading it - you will be amply rewarded !"

4.0 out of 5 stars Story is good but the Narrator is irritating 7 Jun 2012
Format:Audio Download
This is a decent zombie novel, interesting story about an Australian Mum determined to fight for her kids. Cool story behind the outbreak too, not the usual about viruses and/or terrorists. The only bad thing I have to say about it is that any children under the age of 10 are referred to as babies, I found this very annoying.

However, my review is specifically about the AUDIO version, I don't believe any of the other 3 (current) reviews are for the audio version.

The narrator is just plain aggravating, her accent comes and goes, she comes across as a bad mix of American/Scottish/Irish attempting an Australian accent.

I must tell you though that the audio version is still decent, unlike many it is tolerable, the narration is irritating but the story is enjoyable enough that you can suffer through the narration.

Another reviewers mentions that you may like the story even if you're not a zombie fan (aficionado) and I think this is true, it is a tale of survival and it's not often we get a story of a Mothers struggle to survive in an apocalyptic world so give it a go, you'll probably love it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Mom fighting zombies!!! 30 May 2012
By Ursula K. Raphael TOP 1000 REVIEWER
Format:Kindle Edition
I've been waiting for someone to write a story with a mother as the main character, and this was a good attempt. Lori is a mom in Australia who drops her kids off at various places before she goes to work at the local hospital as an ER nurse. On her way to work, the radio reports an accident involving one of the mines. The original victims are taken to the hospital where Lori works, and it's not long before Lori finds herself in the middle of zombie outbreak. She doesn't have much trouble getting to her children, but getting them to safety is an absolute nightmare.

I enjoyed this story, and I usually don't pick on typos, but there was at least one serious mistake that I couldn't ignore. One of the survivors has her arm amputated, but then her arm magically reappears later in the story, and then she's back to one arm by the end of the book. I think that was the most obvious issue, but considering that another reviewer complained about it back in 2011 and the same issue is still present in my 2012 version, it's not the quality that I've come to expect from Permuted Press. The rest of the editing issues didn't really affect the flow of the story.

Another reason that I gave this book three stars is that sometimes Lori came off as too perfect...some of the scenarios were just too convenient. I had trouble believing that a character who struggled with hiking up a steep hill could run for hours on end with no sleep and no food. I didn't think that an ER nurse could pull off a limb amputation, outside of a hospital setting with only paramedic supplies. Her sister just happens to live in a giant "tree house." How completely fortunate for Lori - we should all be so lucky in an apocalypse. I also felt like the author was afraid to kill off her characters.

I will say that I read this book in one sitting, and despite my criticisms, I look forward to reading more from this author...I'd just like to see her take more risks with her characters in the future. I think many people will enjoy the action, and I think many will appreciate the family theme in this story (children are a bigger part of this story than any other I have read up to this point). I appreciated that author included the range of ages you would expect in an average community, and I thought one of the best scenes was when Lori was struggling to warn a school principal about an approaching zombie horde.

If nothing else, I think it was worth reading a story about a mom fighting zombies in Australia, just for something different.
