Product Description

Dead Space is a feature length horror/sci-fi animated movie based on the much anticipated Electronic Arts video game set for release in the fall of 2008. When a deep space mining operation discovers a mysterious alien Marker, some believe they have finally found evidence of our creators. However, the removal of the Marker instead unleashes a horrific alien species, which had been entombed within a remote planet, and a desperate fight for survival ensues. The story follows a select group of miners and crew members, as they confront a grotesque and lethal invasion unlike anything ever seen before. The Dead Space animation will serve as a prequel to the game, and take adult animated horror to a whole new level.

I recently bought Dead Space on Xbox 360 (great game BTW) and decided to get this to give me some background on the story. That's exactly what it did! The story acts as a prequel to the game and explains how things came to be, right up to the point were you arrive at the ship in the game. I'm not really an anime fan so at first I wasn't too impressed with the way it looked, but it did grow on me as time went on. As a Blu Ray disc I'm giving it 4*, some of it looked amazing, other parts pretty ordinary.

If you own or are planning to buy Dead Space the game then I recommend it, similarly if your an anime fan I think you'll enjoy it. If your not buying the game or not into anime then I wouldn't bother.

PS - I also recommend downloading the animated comics from xbox live as they add a lot to the story. They are esentially a prequel to the prequel and explain a lot!

I bought this to fill in the back story of events that happen before the game begins and it does just that. In saying this though, you can work out the details for yourself if you apply a little bit of brain power and listen/watch out for the clues in the game provided by the audio and video logs.

I would warn anyone thinking about getting this if you haven't played the game, there is a major plot spolier that is casually revealed during the film that you don't find out until about 75% of the way through the game. There is also an inconsistency with the weaponry used in the film compared to the game - I don't this this is simply an equipment difference between the two ships. I reckon it might be down to the animators for the film mis-interperating the descriptions of the mining tools that your game character uses.

I've seen a few criticisims of the animation quality on other reviews, its certainly not Pixar quality but its adequate for the task and I think that you can say the same about the film as a whole. It gets the job done, not a classic by any means but good enough and I'm not sure if it gains anything by opting for Blu Ray over DVD - I give it a B+.

The storyline is decent and the animation is, well a bit jolty at times and also sometimes you can tell there are animations on a fixed art background. Really the only use of this movie is to fill you in with more about how the Ishimura fell(and not really any more about the dead space universe), so if your not into dead space or haven't played the game then don't get this (unless you intend to play the game). It wont make sense and it could put you off the game. Which would be a big shame because Dead Space is truly a great game.
So really all in all only get this game if you like dead space and it's not even essential if you do like dead space. But if you can't wait for Dead Space 2 then this could help you get a small fix, but only a small one.

Personally I'm more interested in a good story that kick a**se effects. Therefore although I'd agree that the animation is more than a little stilled in this the back story is... Read more

I bought this out of curiosity, having enjoyed the game (check out my PC review folks), but wish I hadn't bothered. Read more
