Good friends are hard to keep - alive. It is Halloween night and five wannabe frat members have to face the challenge of spending the night in a haunted house. The only problem is that one of their number has been possessed by the evil spirit if a half-dead professor who is trying to open the portals to another dimension and doesn't mind killing a few teenagers along the way. Will anyone survive the night?

I saw this in a bargain bin with 'Corpses' and thought I'd take a chance at £1.99 for the pair. Was it worth spending that kind of money? Yes, and no.

A brief synopsis: five college teens want to be members of their frat society but have to pass the 'tests', which include spending the night in the obligatory haunted house with the booty they've had to acquire. Unbeknown, a half dead professor is trying to open the way to an alternate dimension with the help of an ancient book, which, you've guessed, those in the house have.

One of the many pluses this film has going for it is Tiffany Shepis and Nectar Rose, the latter spending the entire 85 minutes in a bunny costume (and very enticing it looks) whilst Shepis is clad in a silver jump suit that shows off all her curves, save for the time she's briefly naked. Another tick is reserved for the occasional amusing lines and the way some of the living are dispatched. Other scenes might raise a chuckle, such as the one where Delia (Rose) is being pleasured by a tongue she doesn't realise is no longer attached to its owner.

The negatives? The background story has been used a million times before, but I guess no-one's that interested in the whys and wherefores, and you'll telegraph everything that's going to happen in both that and the action.

I wasn't really sure what to expect of Dead scared. I had not heard of it before and was hoping it would be a fairly cool up to date slasher film as it was made in 2004. I can only assume it was straight to DVD, it seems part slasher and part spoof....whether intentionally or not.
A group of uni students have to spend the night at a haunted house as part of an initiation to join the clan. However one of them becomes possessed and starts killing off the others. Not the most original story ever. It does feature a brief cameo appearance from the lovely Brooke Burke. If you like horrors so bad they become funny you will enjoy this but otherwise best avoided.

Written and directed by Rolfe Kanefsky, Dead Scared looks like your typical low budget horror from the outset. A couple of 'names' like Brad Dourif and Tiffany Shepis star with a bunch of unknowns, and the plot sounds as though it has been used more than Katie Price. Well call me a little surprised then as this was more fun than I expected. The acting is better than your typical low budget horror (but will still be closer to a Razzie than an Oscar), the story, whilst formulaic, has a couple of nice twists and I enjoyed the finale, and the special effects have a very cartoony feel that reminded me a lot of Sam Raimi's horror. Although it adds up to a fairly average movie watching experience, it beat out all my expectations from looking at the cover and reading the overview. 3/5

Started with some potential but somewhere lost it and turned into a ridiculously stupid comedy with a bit of gore.

Some sorortity and fraternity pledges find themselves on a scavenger hunt on Halloween night, for strange items leading them to breaking into the house of a warlock to get a valuable book, resulting in the warlock getting seriously hurt ending up in hospital. Hellbent on revenge the Warlock begins to cause mayhem for all and starts to pick them off one by one using magic to do his evil deeds.

It's an excuse for bare boobs, sex, blood and gore. Probably a good movie for guys but the story leaves very little for anyone else, and it's not as interesting as I even made it sound.

One of the worst horrors I've possibly ever seen.
