Review

My first encounter with the multi-prizewinning Australian writer Peter Temple, and the experience has left me hot on the trail of his earlier books - Guardian

Characterisation, dialogue and the quality of the prose are all top-class - Sunday Telegraph

Great locations, hard-nosed dialogue and a twisting plot combine to create superb entertainment - Evening Standard

Product Description

Jack Irish has a lot on his mind. His woman has an old flame, his champion horse has been put down and his gambling has left him for broke. No wonder then, that he's a bit distracted from the work he is getting paid for - looking for the elusive Robbie Colburne, occasional barman. He's not the only one. Robbie's caught the interest not only of the police, but also certain dealers from the city's criminal class.

So when Robbie finally shows up - in the morgue - he thinks he'd better start taking his job seriously.

But there are those who would prefer him not to. Who don't like it when Jack begins asking questions. Who would do anything to make sure Jack Irish stays off the case - for good.

A different location, a different type of hero, a different type of situation and well written: this is a real page turner, journey book and a thoroughly exciting read.

4.0 out of 5 stars Solving Shady Substance Shenanigans 24 April 2012
By Siouxie

Jack Irish, all round good ole Oz bloke has once again become involved in solving some seriously shady crimes. Inbetween fitting a library, hooking up with an old flame and losing some money on the ponies, he continues to frequent Melbourne cafe life and get beaten up again. Not to mention the Saints on a losing streak . .

4.0 out of 5 stars Dead Point by Peter Temple 5 Nov 2010
Format:Paperback
I found this Author recently, and his raw approach to writing crime fiction, may not be appreciated by all, but he certainly appeals to me.

I enjoyed this book, more probably than "The Broken Shore", but perhaps that's because I've got used to the style of writing.

Love the plot twists and characters and most of all the Aussie humour. Can't wait to read the next one. I wonder if there are solicitors like Jack out there. I hope so...
