5.0 out of 5 stars The best show on TV today 21 May 2005
I'm currently enjoying the 2nd (and sadly last) series of DLM on Sky 1. This show is fantastic and original, really the besy show around.
DLM centres around George, who we meet on the last day of her 18 years of life. But luckily (though she doesn't see it that way) she doesn't pass to the other side, she has been chosen for a special job - a reaper - collecting the souls of people about to die, and sending them to the other side.
George isn't alone in this, in her area there is a team of 4 other reapers lead by Rube, to help and guide her in her new life...
DLM really goes the extra mile when we also follow George's parents and younger sister as they try to deal with this bombshell, and move on.
Simply an amazing show: at times serious, funny and shocking, you are always left thrilled.

What if life really begins only after you die? Georgia Lass never really lived in her 18 years before being killed by the toilet seat from the de-orbiting space station MIR. Sullen, bored, and apathetic, it is in death that she finds meaning and purpose in her life as she becomes a grim reaper, responsible for the transition of souls from death to their particular afterlife. In this series, death gives people like Georgia who never really lived their life to have a do-over and serve as a grim reaper. Of course they still are visible by the living, have to get jobs to support themselves, and can be stuck as reaper from decades, but this adds to the poetry of the premise. Overall the show is sarcastic, dark and subversive, but makes for highly entertaining television and included any number of laugh out loud moments.

Created by Brian Fuller, the genius behind Wonderfalls, Dead Like Me stars a wonderful cast headed by the note perfect Ellen Muth as Georgia and Mandy Patinken as Rube, the head of a small crew of Grim Reapers working the Seattle area. The supporting cast is solid, including Callum Blue as Mason, Laura Harris as Daisy A'dair, and Jasmine Guy as Roxy. Rebecca Gayheart appeared for a few episodes in the season, but then vanished, a mystery that has yet to be explored.

So being dead and stuck in a job that she didn't choose and doesn't particularly want, Georgia has to find meaning in an existence that is quite different from the one she had. She learns that she has to learn to let go of her family and little sister. She learns that friendship and family can be found in strange places, even the temp agency she works in, and that ultimately death has a purpose and a poetry for everyone, even her.

5.0 out of 5 stars Let the Grim Reapers LIVE!!!!! 7 Feb 2005
With Buffy finished and Angel and Firefly prematurely axed I was in a terrible mess. "Where am I to find my fix of supreme cult TV now?" I asked myself. The news of a "Firefly" movie was severly welcomed but I still yearned for more TV. Sublime, suprising weekly doses of a show that was made by a bunch of people who not only know what sucks and what doesn't, but who also (whisper it) care about the show.
"Dead Like me" Folks, you'll find it all here. I think only around 3 people in Britain have heard of it despite the 1st season airing at a favourable time slot on Sky one, but don't let the lack of snowballing put you off. In my experience it's programmes like this that are so different they veer right over less intelligent peoples heads.
I really don't want to start explaining the show as I'm afraid I won't stop and other reviews have done a good job of just that, but I just had to chime in with my bit.
If you're a fan of cult TV (and for me "Cult TV" is a sub-genre in which you can tell just by watching it that it hasn't been mindlessly churned out on an assembly line, but rather produced with care and takes risks regardless of whether 90% of the ignorant masses will be put off) then you will loooove this show.
It's just finished it's 2nd season in the US and I have an omnious feeling it's to be another Firefly (a short but incredibly bright shining light of quality genre TV) so please, please start watching it as it deserves the full 7 seasons the most successful of these shows get. Plus it has proper cursing which I'm pretty sure is a first for this kind of show (not that I care, but it is novel)
Go buy or watch and Buy, just make sure the Reapers live!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Extremely Entertaining 16 Jun 2004
By A Customer
I first saw this when it was broadcast on sky last year, it looked like an interesting idea but I had my doubts on how long it could keep an entertaining story line. However I watched the pilot and was hooked eversince.
The story grabs you from the get go with Georgia being killed during her 45 minute lunch hour on the first day of her new job by a toilet seat that has fallen from a space station. After being hit the toilet seat she ends up meeting a man who claims to be a reaper and that it was his job to remove a soul from a person before they die, and that now that she was dead it was hers as well.
From here on it the series revolves around georgia doing her job as a reaper and how she tries to avoid doing it. This is not the only problem however as she still has to make a living after her death.
