What an amazing sequel to Glass Houses! I didn't know if Caine was going to be able to keep up the anti from the ending of the last book but she is and grippingly so.
We start this book exactly where we left off from at the end of the last book; with Shane's father having stormed the house and intent on killing vampires and Micheal and we find out if he does...
Claire eventually manages to get them out of the house but not before damage is already done and they are all facing being in danger all over again. Is is also not the last we see or hear of Shane's dad and his vampire revenge biker gang... Meanwhile, Claire is still the target of Monica and she suffers at the hands of her despite not living in the dorm and having protection...
Everthing is constantly building to the bigger picture in this book, pieces are being pieced together until they reach a shocking and terrifying climax which seems to just get worse... The ending leaves off with a sense that if you thought things were bad, that they are definetly going to get even worse in book 3. Which should make for another gripping book and continuation of the series.
In this book, I really likes the progression of Claire and Shane's relationship. In amoungst all the carnage, choas and vampires, it was nice to have that little stretch back to humanity. To be reminded that while Morganville is a scary and dangerous place, that both friends and love can help. By the same token; that of Eve and Micheal who overcome obstacles and like Shane and Claire, they admit their feelings for each other. Its provides that crucial link back to reality.
Anothere nice wee extra is Eve's diary which Caine has continued on from the last book. It lets you further in to the world of Morganville and that of Eve and provides you with a few tit bits which are not shared in the main story! Which is always good :)
The ending lets us breathe for a bit, instead of a cliffhanger of such, we are left to ponder and wonder what the consequences of Claire's actions will be on the next book which is called Midnight Alley and I can't wait to read it!
