Awesome talent 12 Feb 2010
By merlin
Format:Audio CD
22 year old Caitlin Rose is no ordinary country singer. Blessed with a startling, precocious native talent, a silvery, bell-clear, brilliant voice and crucially, an undeniable charisma along with defiant songwriting style all her own, Caitlin Rose draws to mind the pure country pop of Jenny Lewis, the early folk experiments of Beck and the sheer cheek of Moldy Peaches, underlying a gigantic vocal talent scaling the heights of Neko Case alongside her obvious adoration of Linda Ronstadt, Loretta Lynn, Emmylou Harris and Patsy Cline.
This is a fantastic ep from start to finish and i can't wait for the album proper later this year

I bought this having discovered it included a version of a Jagger Richard number "Dead Flowers" which I had never heard before. The Caitlin Rose version could not sound more different to the Rolling Stones live version on the "Stripped" album which I purchased at the same time. Caitlin Rose has an amazing country voice but almost all the other tracks on here let her down, its too quirky. She really should record more mainstream material. However, well worth buying just for the one track and to compare to the Stones version.

Hope For The Music Biz Yet! 28 Jun 2010
By William B. Cornell - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD|Amazon Verified Purchase
Well, whatdyaknow? A 22 year old that probably would glare to death anyone who called her a "diva", who can sing about stuff in the third person--stories you recall after the song is over. A young artist with a sense of musical history, influenced a lot by pre-1990-- who's actually done her homework: Caitlin Rose sounds like a cross between Kitty Wells/Patsy Cline/Hazel Dickens with a bit of Frank Zappa's GTOs and Josephine Baker. That she probably knows WHO these musical ancestors are, to begin with, is reason enough to get this disc and follow this artist. If she succeeds in the years ahead, we who are weary of the vulgarity in likes of Black Eyed Peas have hope indeed! Five stars, but I almost docked it one-half just because it is short--only 7 tunes. Maybe combine all of this CD with 10 more cuts the next go-round and that will really get everyone to sit up and take notice.

Cigarettes Won't Kill Ya 17 Nov 2010
By E. Hurt - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
Just for the sake of accuracy--in case someone looks to amazon for information on release dates and all--I'll point out that this EP originally appeared on the Theory 8 label in early 2008. Seven tracks. Songs include a cover of the Rolling Stones' "Dead Flowers" and a version of Eddie Miller's "Three Cigarettes in an Ashtray." Good stuff, with minimalist arrangements--a couple of tracks feature tambourine and Rose's voice, nothing else. She is from Nashville.
