Product Description

The Dead are Closer than you Think

DI Doug Cameron is about to retire after a distinguished career in Edinburgh’s police force, when an anonymous caller reports a woman being attacked in Greyfriars churchyard. During the investigation a mummified body is unearthed and Cameron comes to believe it’s his young wife, Rebecca, who disappeared 17 years before. Haunted by the case he never solved, Cameron, a sceptic, has a series of disturbing and fragmented premonitions which begin with a mysterious girl who looks like Rebecca. As his real and unreal world collide Cameron thinks the girl holds the key, not just to the recent attack in the graveyard, but to what happened to Rebecca. But will the truth prove more terrible than the unknown?
Dead Close is in development as a movie with production company Makar After Dark, screenplay by Lin Anderson.

I have only recently been introduced to Lin Anderson and love reading her books as they are set in & around Glasgow so are familiar. It's only a short read, but worth a punt in my opinion.

Good story but so short it was just like a prologue. I knew it was a short story but expected more than the few pages.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Past That Never Dies 15 Feb 2012

This is essentially a mystery, however, at times it borders on being a ghost story.

The story deals with two detectives on Edinburgh's police force. One is on the verge of retiring (DI Cameron), whereas the other is his second-in-command (Boyd), soon to be his replacement. A few days before retiring, DI Cameron is called in on a case that brings up old memories from years ago, memories that still haunt him, memories of his young wife's sudden disappearance. He feels sure that there's a connection between the current crime and his wife's disappearance.

I enjoyed this story. It was well written, easy to read, but the ending felt flat to me.
