This is the funniest book i have read in a long time. So fresh and yet so real. Everybody can relate to the main character (Joe) in some fashion or if not they surely know somebody like him. A dead on guy who just lacks self confidence and is extremely unlucky or just thinks he is. The phraseology and bizarre but lyrical language really intensifies some of Joe's and his friends hilarous mishaps. Things start off for Joe with some mundane regularity but he seems stuck in a rut and definitely not happy with his lot.....his job...his always depressed family...his lack of a love life etc. But before things get better they get worse.....then worse again and then when you think its finally getting better for Joe things escalate into an unbelievable clutter of disasters. The book loses some of its humour towards the latter half but by this time you know and feel sorry for Joe so much you just cant put it down....willing for things to finally come good for him. Totally hillarious & refreshing read......or maybe it just appeals to irish humour

Dead Cat Stays Dead 1 Mar 2006
By Sam
Format:Paperback
'Dead Cat Bounce' does not pretend to be anything other than middle of the road lad lit - and it certainly did not fail here. The story follows an Irish 20 something as he goes though a set of crises that don't really capture the imagination. Coupled to this is the feeling that at the end nothing is concluded either.

As a whole it is quite a poor first novel with little to encourage me to try any other books by the author.

MODERN IRISH HUMOUR 12 Jan 2001
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
This is a book for anyone who is familiar with the Irish male,a fairly strange beast.Poor Joe just can't escape from his mother and the dramas which unfold in his family household. He tries to get on with life in his Dublin bedsit but he hates his job and he doesn't seem to have what it takes with the women.A 19 year old gets pregnant and a factory might be closing are not exactly high drama stuff but somehow it is all veey compelling. It is certainly very funny. The use of expletives to punctuate the text might put off a more sensitive [esp. English ]reader but believe me,this is a modern Irish reality.I can relate to this book all too well as an Irish female but I hope it will have a much wider appeal.Next book soon please!
