"Highly recommended for patrons who enjoy British police procedurals." "--Library Journal"

Product Description

Murder is rarely cut and dried. Usually it follows its own unique, twisted logic... Deputy Chief Constable Bob Skinner has a failed marriage on his hands, and a death on his conscience. He faces the biggest challenge of his career within the secret corridors of Westminster, where dark power is wielded. Meanwhile, back in Edinburgh, Skinner's daughter is being harassed by a stalker. Can he protect her? A bookmaker has taken one gamble too many and paid his debt in a gruesome fashion. Is it an underworld vendetta, or something more sinister? Alongside it all a casual call to the Chief Constable sets him on a personal crusade which quickly points to a bigamist at work. Or is it worse? Four crimes, four crises: can Skinner and his people solve them? Indeed can they survive them?

After some fairly meandering and unbelievable episodes in the Skinner series, and the easily accepted breakup of his marriage, this is more of a return to form for Quintin Jardine's Edinburgh Supercop. Following on from the climax of Lethal Intent, Dead and Buried contains four interlinked stories , with a few twists and turns along the way. Only the bigamy story mentioned in the publisher's review is of lesser interest.

As always, it helps if you are familiar with the series and if you are familiar with Edinburgh, but these are still hugely enjoyable easy reads.

Classic Jardine. Not the best in the Skinner series, IMO, but really good anyway.

Jardine is underrated. He is often compared to Ian Rankin and I think it should be the other way around,ie, Rankin is nearly as good as Jardine!!

For most of the book I thought that Jardine was back to his best. Alas his tendancy to solve crimes by such contrived means kicked in and spoilt the ending. Regretably also in evidence was the usual Skinner invulnerability and somewhat unbelievable relationship with the First Minister in-waiting (why does Jardine make his characters like this?)
