5.0 out of 5 stars You'll like it.....but not a,lot! 5 April 2013
Format:DVD|Amazon Verified Purchase
A frequently head scratching and yet utterly brilliant horror comedy with musical interludes thrown in.

It is hard to describe this film without giving away too many of the plot points but this is a film about the undead and the dead that I am pretty sure you will never have seen before, and wearing its lack of self importance on its sleeve as it pokes fun at horror and itself without dragging you out of the film.

Buy it and be very pleasantly surprised at what a good choice you made.

3.0 out of 5 stars So So ZomCom 17 Jan 2013
Format:DVD|Amazon Verified Purchase
Horror films released by the Anchor Bay imprint can usually be expected to be at least an interesting release with a good quality of packaging & picture quality - this would be attempt to follow in the successful footprints of The Evil Dead & Shaun Of The Dead as a gory ZomCom really only just makes the grade as a worthwhile product for the label.
The first half of the film is pretty slow - the build up to the zombie "explosion" seems to meander along with very few laughs or scares & the main problem is that the cast of travellers struggle to make an impression in terms of engaging with the audience - in the absence of decent characterisations stemming from the writer/director you tend to look for familiar faces & I only recognised Bianca Lawson (from the latter days of Saved by the Bell - & her acting hasn't developed much since her "arms folded" days on that show) & Gina Phillips from a few successful genre films (Jeepers Creepers etc).
If you can stick with the first 40 minutes then the film does change pace when the cast trek off to a barn hoe down - things take an upturn as invading zombies want more than a dance from their ad hoc partners.
The rest of the film does then exhibit a succession of gory & inventive endings for the zombies & cast members, the dark humour does pick up to some extent (i.e. if you find the thought of some MJ's Thriller style synchronised zombie dancing amusing etc) & a decent resolution of sorts is reached.
Overall 2.5 stars & might be worth a look for fans of this genre at the right price.

4.0 out of 5 stars Funny Horror 30 Oct 2012
By Kadie
Format:DVD
This film is very entertaining. It's funny, gory, and quite unpredictable. There are some pretty good actors in it- particularly Jeffrey Dean Morgan, who is just fantastic as the sheriff.
I loved the singing and dancing zombies- that actually made me laugh out loud.
Definitely an amusing film, and definitely worth watching.

4.0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly good horror comedy. 4 July 2010
By Ernie
Format:DVD
'Dead & Breakfast' is a strange film, a weird mix of gory horror, witty comedy, peppered with musical numbers from singing hillbilly zombies which all together shouldn't really work, but the end result is surprisingly good.
The dialogue is sharp and witty, the acting is well above average for this type of film, the direction is polished and well paced and the musical numbers are genuinely funny.
Overall this is an inventive tongue in cheek horror film with buckets of gore which should be on any horror fans rental list. If you enjoy this then you should also check out the equally good comedy horror 'Idle Hands'.

5.0 out of 5 stars It's a classic 22 Feb 2010
By I. Dunn
Format:DVD
I gave this movie 5 stars for fun factor.
Some Americans dont "get" Shaun of the Dead.
Some Brits dont "get" Dead and Breakfast.
Just like some folks like Country and Western music and some don't.
Think of this a country and western zombie spoof.
I enjoyed it very much, the only thing that could make it better was a couple of extra beers.
You got to take it on its own terms, dont try to impose you preconceptions onto it.
Here Day of the Dead meets Oklahoma, deal with it maties.

1.0 out of 5 stars Doesn't deserve any points!! 5 Jan 2010
Format:DVD|Amazon Verified Purchase
To even use 'Shaun of the Dead' in the bio for this movie is a blasphemy!!

This film is terrible and doesn't achieve anything in either the comedy or the horror stakes..... it's just really, really sad... a very poor effort.

Obviously for ZomCom no-one has come near to topping 'Shaun of the Dead' in either content or quality and this humorless American attempt at replicating the genre doesn't even turn up to the race, never mind enter it!!!!

If you want ZomCom - stay with 'Shaun of the Dead' (UK) or 'Last of the Living'(New Zealand)or even Dead and Deader(USA) with Dean Cain if you want a better USA attempt.

I actually threw my copy in the bin.

1.0 out of 5 stars Worst. Movie. Ever. 30 April 2006
By B. Ashley VINE™ VOICE
Format:DVD
I recently rented this DVD, and I had to come and write this review so that people do not accidentally buy it. On the cover it says that it is the "US answer to Sean of the Dead". The producers should be sued over this comment. Sean of the Dead was dead funny, but this movie is a dead duck. Not once in the entire movie did I even crack a smile.

The characters are annoying within the first 4 minutes and you find yourself willing them dead even before the movie has gotten underway. I have no problems with films that cast "nobody" actors, because many "nobody" actors can act and go on to better things.

Don't even watch this movie for the gore, there is much better out there.

And there's no horror, and there's no comedy.

Go elsewhere. Better to watch Sean of the Dead twice over than watch this movie even once.
