3.0 out of 5 stars Why, Lord, Why?! 23 Aug 2008
By V. Davis - Published on Amazon.com
Format:DVD
This world has never been overly kind to us pUnK RockERS.
By 1986, MTV was on the air... The people who run the gigs at Montreux were already doing high-quality tapings of those shows for years... Lords Of New Church had already done 'Live From London'(which is available on DVD)... The cost of taping a show and mass-marketing it had obviously come down... So... why did no one think to record this Dead Boys 'reunion' concert?!
The only person who did, obvioulsy, is some guy who either bought a ticket and smuggled in his VHS recorder, or else some guy who was handed a VHS recorder and told to point it at the stage and zoom in whenever the mood struck him.
In other words, this DVD looks like they found which either guy had that VHS recorder with him, dumped that one-angle recording onto a DVD, tweaked the sound a bit, and threw it out there to see who would bite!
And that really wasn't necessary!
If you are 'hardcore' Dead Boys fan... if you just can't get enough of anything available out there that in any way documents the 'rise and fall' of pUnK ROck as we knew it, then buy this DVD! YOu will get to see Stiv singing Dead Boys tunes in his Lords of the New Church costume. (Yeah.. he's wearing that silly hat.) You will get to see Cheeta with a shaved head. You will get to see a one-off gig that should have been seriously recorded!
In other words - this DVD, in my opinion, is only for those who want to see a bit of history; no matter how badly it is recorded.
If you are looking for a really good concert DVD to buy - this ain't it! But, if you want the only available copy of The Dead Boys getting back together, again, then this is probably it!
'Nuff Said!

4.0 out of 5 stars Rockin' footage with a special feel 24 Aug 2010

Here you'll find a crude video with the attitude and sound to match! Although the video quality isn't equal to today's standards, its absolutely passable. The sound quality is excellent too. You don't get any interference in the video or sound, as opposed to bootleg videos that have people talking and stuff like that.

This is a time capsule which never fails to make you understand how great the band was, even during a one off concert. This is a simple straight shot to the stage, which allows me to sort of feel like I was there unlike modern DVD concerts which have a million camera shots that get me dizzy.

The lighting and dark setting are perfect for the vibe of the show. You've got the band doing there thing in a powerful way. Stiv was in a certain fashion phase which is kinda funny and reminds you of the 80's. Best of all, he's singing the songs well as opposed to other footage of him sort of throwing himself around and losing focus on the vocals.

The band had a special bond and chemistry which is very evident here. I'm glad to have this as part of my collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars Oh, The Humanity! 2 Jan 2011
By Timothy K. Schwader - Published on Amazon.com
Format:DVD
For those of you NOT born prior to the dawn of the 1980s who may have gained an interest in the Dead Boys in one way or another (smart kids!), do us all a favor before viewing this DVD: go to Google and type in the word `video' (a word which you are somewhat familiar with, despite the fact that you don't truly understand its actual meaning) and the word `tape' (just trust me on this one, seriously) together; click on an interesting-looking page or two (it'll seem tough, because every page will look to you like those pages you have to view while researching papers for your courses in Ancient History); work through your bewilderment--ask mom and dad to help, they may actually have some useful knowledge on this subject!); then keep all this information in mind as you watch the beauty of this classic Dead Boys performance unfold. For the rest of you (old gits like myself), you know what you're getting: this is the Dead Boys, live in 1986. The setlist is pure gold, the performance is amazing, and the bonus features (the rare `Sonic Reducer' video and a hilarious appearance by Stiv Bators on a small-town morning chat show, replete with a Will Ferrell-lookalike host) are a true bonus. Stiv Bators, Cheetah Chrome, Jimmy Zero, Jeff Magnum, and Johnny Blitz. Onstage. On fire. Oh, the humanity! 100% essential.
