5.0 out of 5 stars Ours is silent and provides plenty of heat......, 10 Nov 2007
By Carl Freeman (Worcester - UK) - See all my reviews
    (REAL NAME)
We have a 12' by 16' conservatory, which we have been using very little in the winter months as it gets so cold, even with the plumbed in radiator. We therefore decided to buy an additional heater. We was almost put off by the previous review, but decided as there would be no need for silence (eg, no one would be sleeping in there) that we could take the risk on noise. It arrived several days ago (Amazon always very reliable on timely delivery) and we plugged it in.

As an oil filled radiator (as opposed to a fan heater), it does not warm up immediately, but it does not take very long at all. Not really any longer than a conventional radiator in your central heating system. There is the odd click as it warms up, but hey - unless you were listening for it as I was, and only then because of the previous review complaining of its noisiness, I suspect you would not notice it. It is as near as silent as I imagine you can get.

What can I say? - it does the business. Within minutes it has a noticeable effect on the conservatory (eg - it is as warm as the rest of the house and makes it comfortable to sit in it) and it stays that way. There is an almost infinite number of heat settings (the temperature gauge is electronic, so you alter it by pressing the "warmer" or "cooler" buttons, and you can even do that from a nifty little remote control. It is disappointing that the remote does not work from the other side of the double glazed patio door (eg, you actually have to go into the conservatory to turn it on!) but it has a timer too - so I guess we could programme it to come on and off at the times we want if we were too bone idle to simply turn it on. Above all - it comes with a TEN YEAR guarantee which is another strong point.

Are we happy with our choice? Absolutely. Would we recommend this radiator to anyone else? Definitely. I could not fault it - hence the five stars.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great - but not for a bedroom, 13 Dec 2007
By M. Harrison "Hamish" (London, UK) - See all my reviews
    (REAL NAME)
We bought this for our new baby's room for night time, when the central heating is turned down. It is super-effective. We haven't yet taken t above its minimum heat setting (it has three), and once it has achieved temperature it has a thermostatic control you can set it to to hold it there. All very good.

The downside, as others have mentioned, is the array of noises. It makes sporadic clicks and clunks as the metal expands and contracts. It may help to run it full tilt for a while, and then turn it down - but I can't face trying it because it is too effective! The noises have been a slight problem with a tiny baby in the room. For an adult it would depend how light a sleeper you were. If you wanted to use it in another context it would be fine - after all, even central heating systems have their noises.

The other slight sound irritant is the timer clock which whirs away constantly. Low level, but a little irritating if you are nearby.

Summary: highly recommended if you are not putting it in a sound-sensitive context. Extremely good at its primary purpose: heating.

    5.0 out of 5 stars Very good , 19 Nov 2007
By Reviewer (London) - See all my reviews
The heater I received has been completely silent. So silent, I had to put my hand over the heater to check it's actually on. This is a big plus for me as it's in the bedroom. The climate control is another big plus, as the heater will only spit out as much heat as it needs to keep the room at a certain temperature, so it might be on low, or not on at all - as long as the room is the right temperature. With other heaters you might wake up and find the room boiling. I like the fact that it has a remote control. My only negative would be that the remote control and heater display are not lit, so in the dark, it's hard to tell whether you've turned the radiator off, or just amended the temperature. But that's a small point. The heater also seems powerful enough to keep our extremely cold room, very warm, so I would thoroughly recommend it.
