After its rave review in Which and the escalating cost of utilities, this heater seemed like a smart idea. In its favour, it is very easy to control by the remote unit which is obviously and helpfully laid out. In contrast, the same controls at the head of the unit itself are almost impossible to use: the buttons tightly encircle the LCD are all black and only distinguished by an embossed symbol in the plastic. If you shine a light upon them, bend over and squint, you might be able to see which is which. They are tightly packed in but you might be able to learn their position off by heart. I think most people would use the remote; we do.
The build quality of the unit is a slight disappointment for the price. It is well assembled and is an elegant modern design but it is constructed of worryingly light plastic. If you were to accidentally step on the base, for instance, it would break immediately, I am sure. This is not a robust unit, but the upside of this is that it is *very* light to move around the house without a problem (there is no carrying handle, but there is a recess at the rear top for gripping).
It is in the performance stakes where it shines, though and I agree that it is efficient and heats a moderately large room pretty quickly (particularly if you activate the rotating head function and blast out the fan at max). I would not say the fan is unobtrusive, and is louder than the Which review implied, but perhaps compared to other fan heaters it is quiet (I have nothing to compare it with).
I would recommend it, but I think it is over-priced for its build quality.
