    The handle is attached at only one point, and after 3 months ours developed a leak at this point, with steam condensing within the handle and dripping onto the work surface. Whilst this is covered under the warranty, I have to take or send this to an approved DeLonghi agent (nearest 20 miles away) and arrange a repair or replacement. I am then expected to return to the agent to pick up the repaired or replaced item. DeLonghi claim they don't reimburse any out of pocket expenses arising as a result of a repair; fortunately, I know my rights and how to enforce them, but it's aggravation I can do without.

    The product has an inherent design flaw, and unless you know how to enforce your consumer rights, you will have to pay to get this turkey repaired or replaced. My advice: buy another manufacturer's kettle.

    I must admit, I bought this on looks and Delonghi name. Big mistake. Reports of the metallic taste you will find on the internet are very justified. We complained to Delonghi who replaced the kettle saying it must be faulty, but this was the same. Had a refund and purchased a Dualit instead - best move!

    I wouldn't normally consider paying this much for a kettle but it was a perfect match for our refitted kitchen. It looks and feels a quality item and, having had it for several months now, seems easy to clean in order to maintain it's appearance. Quick to boil but quiet it certainly isn't - sort of likes to let you know it's there and working. I trust it will last long enough to justify the cost.

    Sadly not the best purchase I've ever made! A VERY noisy kettle to boil, only purchased in Sept 07 and already falling apart. There is a crack developed in the black plastic part of the lid (the lid incidentally is very hard to pull off). There is also a strange leak from the handle. A small puddle of water drips from the end of the handle, but I don't know how the water gets into it in the first place. Overall not very happy with the quality of this kettle - considering the cost it is poor value for money. Think seriously before buying - it does look very stylish when new but won't last long!!

    Noise is a relative concept. Is this kettle noisy? Well, noisy compared to what? It is quieter than my last kettle. If you've been using a particularly quiet kettle then maybe this model will disappoint you, but I find it hard to classify it as objectively loud. It is also quick to boil, so even if its low growl annoys you the irritation doesn't last for long.

    As for the reports of a funny taste, well, that is quite a drawback for a kettle. Anyone with a kettle that leaves a metallic or otherwise foul taste in the boiled water has a kettle unfit for use. It should be replaced with one fit for the purpose it was sold. I have detected no out of place tastes.

    A stiffness of lid is another reported issue among the reviews. It's true it doesn't come off smoothly, but again this isn't a whole lot different to my previous kettle and I'm not sure it's even worthy of comment.

    Other than that, the kettle is light and it looks great.

    No, not a particularly bad night at the clubs but the DeLonghi Icona kettle. Can't deny it looks very nice and stylish and if you want to stand it in the kitchen and admire it, it's the business!!!!

    But don't put any water in it and don't boil it. Here's why:

    The fill indicator is right behind the handle so you can't see how much water is going in; you might as well just peer into the kettle while you're filling it;
    When you do get to get a glimpse of the fill indicator there's a lag of about a year between the water going in the kettle and the indicator showing it;
    Then when you turn it on to boil the water it seems to take an age to actually boil (no, I wasn't watching it);
    When you pour the boiling water from the kettle into your mug your thumb gets scalded by steam leaking between the lid and the body of the kettle;
    And don't try and make another cup of tea/coffee soon afterwards, you will get showered with hot water when you eventually manage to pull the lid off of the kettle;
    The tiny knob on top of the lid probably isn't very 'friendly' to those people who have arthritis or are similarly challenged in the area of manual dexterity. I'm fully functioning in this department and I think it's fiddly;
    The sides of the kettle get hotter than the 'cool wall' style kettles; and
    Just an observation, but it has a cheap and tacky look and feel to it.

    Other than that, it's pants.

    So, I'm sending it back. The kids (teenagers) have moaned about it burning them and are getting fed up with trying to take the fiddly lid off.

    If it was, say, £20 I might not moan so much, but this isn't a cheap water heater. I'd look elsewhere if I were you.

    I bought this kettle along with the matching toaster and coffee machine for my new kitchen extension. I thought the black colour was unusual and it really matches my new colour scheme.
    The generous capacity of this kettle is more than enough for our needs. It switches itself off as soon as it boils which I think it a really good energy saving feature, after all who needs a kettle to keep boiling and boiling? Once it's hot, it's hot right?
    Easy to keep clean too
    One small niggle is the lid. It is not a flip up lid so you have to remove it completely to fill the kettle. It is slightly tight so when you pull it, water splashes out onto the counter top. To avoid this, take the kettle to the sink and THEN remove the lid.
    But apart from that, a really good kettle whch I'm very pleased with so far.
