I wouldn't normally consider paying this much for a kettle but it was a perfect match for our refitted kitchen. It looks and feels a quality item and, having had it for several months now, seems easy to clean in order to maintain it's appearance. Quick to boil but quiet it certainly isn't - sort of likes to let you know it's there and working. I trust it will last long enough to justify the cost.

I must admit, I bought this on looks and Delonghi name. Big mistake. Reports of the metallic taste you will find on the internet are very justified. We complained to Delonghi who replaced the kettle saying it must be faulty, but this was the same. Had a refund and purchased a Dualit instead - best move!

The handle is attached at only one point, and after 3 months ours developed a leak at this point, with steam condensing within the handle and dripping onto the work surface. Whilst this is covered under the warranty, I have to take or send this to an approved DeLonghi agent (nearest 20 miles away) and arrange a repair or replacement. I am then expected to return to the agent to pick up the repaired or replaced item. DeLonghi claim they don't reimburse any out of pocket expenses arising as a result of a repair; fortunately, I know my rights and how to enforce them, but it's aggravation I can do without.
The product has an inherent design flaw, and unless you know how to enforce your consumer rights, you will have to pay to get this turkey repaired or replaced. My advice: buy another manufacturer's kettle.

I am so impressed with this item that I am about to purchase the matching toaster!!! It is a little noisy ... but great, at least I know when the kettle is finished boiling :o) We have had ours for a few weeks now, it looks great, is very easy to keep clean and is standing up to my not too delicate husband (we have gone through 3 kettles in 2 years!!!) It also pours well. I would highly recommend this kettle to anyone. Yes, its a little more expensive than your average kettle ... but well worth the extra!

Noise is a relative concept. Is this kettle noisy? Well, noisy compared to what? It is quieter than my last kettle. If you've been using a particularly quiet kettle then maybe this model will disappoint you, but I find it hard to classify it as objectively loud. It is also quick to boil, so even if its low growl annoys you the irritation doesn't last for long.
As for the reports of a funny taste, well, that is quite a drawback for a kettle. Anyone with a kettle that leaves a metallic or otherwise foul taste in the boiled water has a kettle unfit for use. It should be replaced with one fit for the purpose it was sold. I have detected no out of place tastes.
A stiffness of lid is another reported issue among the reviews. It's true it doesn't come off smoothly, but again this isn't a whole lot different to my previous kettle and I'm not sure it's even worthy of comment.
Other than that, the kettle is light and it looks great.

Sadly not the best purchase I've ever made! A VERY noisy kettle to boil, only purchased in Sept 07 and already falling apart. There is a crack developed in the black plastic part of the lid (the lid incidentally is very hard to pull off). There is also a strange leak from the handle. A small puddle of water drips from the end of the handle, but I don't know how the water gets into it in the first place. Overall not very happy with the quality of this kettle - considering the cost it is poor value for money. Think seriously before buying - it does look very stylish when new but won't last long!!

So we dumped our ill-fated Delonghi Argento cream-coloured kettle nightmare (q.v.) and decided to celebrate the recession in style, with a shiny new Icona red kettle and matching red 4-slice toaster. This kettle is easier to handle than the Argenta and has a better centre of balance (unlike the Argenta whose centre of gravity is such that it wants to tip over when you lift it up - so you're fighting against it to keep it upright.). The Icona's rounded handle is more ergonomic as well, and the larger metal lid is a far better fit. It's very stylish, and great news -- it's a lot quieter than the Argenta kettle too!
Apart from that, it boils water the same as any other kettle but the glossy finish does look eyecatching and appealing in the kitchen. And then onto the downside - the water fill indicator tube is, like the Argenta, virtually useless. There is a time lag before it responds (if at all) and most of the time you have little idea how much water is actually inside. It's made of a bit of flexible plastic tube that is decidedly flimsy. The spout filter is like the Argentas, a daft and flimsy design that is fiddly to fit and will probably need replacing every 18 months (if you can get the spares).
The worst aspect by far is the ludicrous assembly near the lid/ handle / top of the water level tube area. Let the kettle come off the boil and pour it - a small but disconcerting jet of steam will shoot from the joint of the handle and body, over your thumb, which is of course resting on the ergonomically shaped handle designed for this very purpose. Return the kettle to the base and another small jet of steam will shoot out right over your thumb. This seems to be due to the ill-conceived design of the water level tube where it joins underneath the top of the handle.... Read more ›
