Good value, reasonably quiet,

This review is from: De'Longhi HVF3033MD Vertical Upright Fan Heater, 3kW (Kitchen & Home)
As far as I can make out, DeLonghi offers three versions of this design - this is the basic model, with two heat settings and a thermostat. Other models in this product family add a timer, and a timer plus a swivel feature respectively. Whereas my 1.8kW ceramic fan heaters can't really cope with the high ceilings in my sitting room, this one *just* about does the job, although I feel that its traditional heated-wire technology, rather than more efficient ceramic, reduces its performance. It is not too noisy ... sounds like a helicopter taking off in the distance. It gives a good blast of air and you can't get air shifting without a certain amount of noise. The finish is a drab industrial off-white, with dark grey for the control knobs. There is a recess at the back which you'd think would allow you to grip it neatly for one-handed carrying. Not so! It requires two hands to move, but happily it is quite light. For this sort of price you won't get the glamorous looks and advanced features of costlier alternatives, but for down-to-earth performance and value at the budget end, this is fine. I just wish that ceramic heaters weren't so much more costly! I think it is pretty well built - for delivery its own cardboard box had just been stuffed into a much larger cardboard box with about a yard of twisted paper, so it was free to bounce around during shipment, yet worked fine out of the box. Before using it 'for real' they advise you to burn-off the fumes for two hours on maximum setting, but I found that around 15 minutes near a partially open front door was enough.

The full power is rarely used, maybe at start up if the room is very cold. Normally you only need the single heater and once set it keeps the room at a constant temperature. I usually do buy Delonghi heaters, it is fours years since the last one. I find them very reliable and this one is a very good model that works well.

I'm delighted with heater. Its ideal for bathroom and small room. Its supposed to be safe in bathroom, but not wise to risk wet hands on switch, so preheat room then turn it off, whilst in bath! When it gets too hot and I wish to reduce heat, the best way is to leave it on heat no 2 and reduce the left switch (kwts) as putting on the heat to no. one position (rh switch) soon leads to a contrast of hot air changing to a cold draught. I would highly recommend this product.
