5.0 out of 5 stars Coffee at it's best 12 Mar 2012

I debated for ages which coffee maker to get and ended up choosing the DeLonghi BC0410 - I'm really happy with it - It looks smart in the kitchen in black and chrome effect silver. It took a little practise to get the coffee just right but after a couple of goes I now get the best filter coffee ever It's easy to use and easy to clean. The espresso side is also really simple to use makes a great coffee and Once you've tried the milk frother a few times you will soon learn how to get the best froth on your milk. I always use skimmed milk and whilst I'm brewing the filter coffee I warm up the frother side then it's ready to go once your coffee has brewed - You can use pods but I haven't tried those yet prefering to use fresh ground coffee. I have perfected my caramel latte to a point where my friend prefers it to Starbucks !!! You can also just use the milk frother for hot chocolate drinks or just putting a frothy milk topping on the kids drinks. It's so versatile and easy to clean even my non coffee drinking partner likes my coffee now !! I wish I had bought this one sooner - Thanks DeLonghi

as previously stated, you get what you pay for, it does the job fine. it isn't the best on the market but your not paying the inflated price of the best. The expresso water tank can be lifted out for filling and cleaning and the filter tank slides out to make filling easier. The machine came with a pack of paper filters, I would prefer it myself if they would supply a permenant filter, also the water level gauge glass would be more clear if there was a ball float, but thats just me being fussy. All in all not a bad machine.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Value 5 April 2012

We've had one of these for about 3 months now. Prior to this we only ever used cheap simple filter designs. I was replacing those so often I decided to spend just a little more and see how it goes.

The filter side of the machine is pretty standard. I like the pull out drawer design and the ease with which you can fill it with water. The drawer does seem a little cheap and plasticky but I can't complain at the price and it seems solid enough still after 3 months. I do tend to spill lots of drops of coffee from the jug supplied (and water when using it to fill it beforehand). Maybe that's just me, since I seem to do that whichever jug I've ever had.. The coffee itself is fine. I'm surprised at the comment that said they returned the machine because the coffee was too weak. I'd say that I use less coffee per pot than in the past with other machines else it's too strong. Although admittedly, this might use a smaller jug, which would explain that.

Where the machine shines, is the espresso side. We were expecting to use it somewhat rarely. Probably not daily and certainly not the multiple times a day we find ourselves using it right now. Personally I find it easier to make a good quality giant coffee using the double sized filter than a regular one with the small one. The smaller ones are more hit and miss getting the right strength. Again, that might just be me.

As you'll see from many of the reviews here, the machine does leak a bit. In our experience we tend to get a leak from the espresso outlet rather than the steamer. There is also a fair bit of steam escaping all around the machine, although I'm wondering whether a machine with a steaming function, that doesn't release excess steam, is a realistic goal.

4.0 out of 5 stars So far, so good 29 April 2013

I wanted a combination filter/espresso machine, and this one seemed to fill the bill.

The filter coffee side is excellent; I can't fault it. The espresso side seems to be very good also, but I suspect that it wouldn't satisfy an out-and-out espresso aficionado - but such a person would probably never think of buying this kind of machine anyway.

The machine itself looks good, and, although the housing is, as you'd expect, plastic, it seems to be quite robust. But it's a machine to be installed in the home and used with care - I don't think it would be suitable for office use.

As others have said, the instructions are not up to much. I suggest that, in addition to looking at the pictures, which seem to be incomplete and sometimes misleading, you actually read the printed words, which are much more helpful. One minor point: despite what the pictures indicate, no filter is supplied for the espresso reservoir, though a filter is supplied for the filter coffee side of things. I had this point confirmed by De'Longhi's telephone help line.

Excellent product, we found that you should pre-heat the steamer side first before making the cappuccino so that you do not have too long to wait for your coffee when made. Easy clean and makes a really nice cup of coffee, might take a while to get the quantity just right so a bit of practice is called for. Used mostly for cappuccino and hot chocolat for the grand kids.

5.0 out of 5 stars De'Longhi BCO410 7 Mar 2012

I'm not going to say this is the Rolls Royce of coffee machines, because it's not. But for the money, it's a fantastic little machine that's really easy to use, easy to clean, and makes a great cup, or pot, of coffee. I noticed someone saying in another review that they'd rather it had a built-in filter than requiring paper filters. But conversely I actually find paper filters (which are seriously cheap in bulk) a really neat way of removing the coffee grounds, rather than having to remove and rinse a permanent filter after every use. And even though it mostly has a plastic exterior, it still looks pretty stylish with the black body and silver trim.

So far, I can't fault it.
