The title of my review is what best describes this converter/adapter.

First of all this adapter does not support 3.5 inch hdds those require a different adapter/ power supply, and are not supported.

For all other hdds (read 2.5inch also known as laptop hdds) and also ssd (don't quote me on it as i haven't tried ssds but it should work) this adapter works, just plug and play, it works on windows 7 and 8, it works on OS X 10.7/10.8/10.9 and also on linux, so you are pretty much covered in terms of support, it supports usb 3.0 for some awesome fast transfers if you need.

I don't think anything else can be said about it, its good its fast its simple, and supported by an whole range of operating systems.

I bought this to connect an SSD I have to my new retina MacBook pro. It worked first time I've also tested it on a PC and that works as well through both USB 3.0 and USB 2.0. Arrived in a heavyweight plastic Ziploc bag but with no padding in the cardboard envelope hasn't affected its performance though. The bag works quite well as a place to store it when it's not being used

Used this to clone my hardrive to new SSD. Took approximately 30 minutes to copy approximately 150GB. I used a USB 3 port.

I used it to install my SSD Samsung 840 Pro drive. Data transfer was briliantly fast. Works well, however there was not really in my case need for the 2 connections. One USB3 would do well as well.

I ordered this to clone my hdd to a new ssd. My laptop is running under windows7 and it was very easy to clone. Nothing to say about the cable, it does what you expect !

Bought this to clone systems but it does NOT work for 3.5" HDD.

It did work for a pair of Samsung SSDs & might for 2.5" spinning HDDs but not for any of the three Western Digital & Seagate 3.5" drives I tried.

I see now that some reviews mention this, but I didn't read them all before purchase. One review says the product description had been changed to mention SSD-only but at present it just reads:
"DeLOCK 61883 Converter Adaptor SATA 22-Pin USB 3.0 Black"
"DeLOCK 61883 SATA 22-pin to USB 2.0/3.0 A male"
"USB3.0 A +USB A ma/ma"

I think it should say that it's not suitable for full-size disks.

I carry this around in my laptop bag and use it to zero small SSDs used to boot enterprise NAS systems. It works a treat for that, but I also used it to copy the data off my old MacBook Pro onto an SSD and then onto my new Mac. The old Mac only had USB2 ports so it copied from its internal 500GB Samsung 840 SSD onto another identical external one at only about 30Mbytes per second. My new MacBook Pro has USB3 so copying from the Samsung SSD to the internal Apple SSD raced along at around 200 MBytes per second.

No driver installation was required to make this work on my MacBook Pro running Mac OS 10.8.4 Mountain Lion, it just works.
