I would imagine that the majority of people who bought this book are, like myself, at least reasonably knowledgable concerning the DC Universe and its inhabitants, so when a novel contains the "Story to date" of not just one, but THREE of the characters in it, well, thats a lot of padding.
Its a shame, really, that the stories of Arsenal (former Speedy), Tempest (former Aqualad) and Nightwing (former Robin) and their relationships to their now former partners Batman, Aquaman and Green Arrow are given so much page space as otherwise this is one cracker of a story.
Basically, Deathstroke sends Batman a warning that something is not well in Gotham by missing his intended target. When the Dark Knight contacts Green Arrow in the hopes of locating Arsenal (who has contacts that might help), the Emerald Archer immediately volunteers not only himself but also Aquaman to help - despite Batman's protests, naturally! Following different leads, the teams of Green Arrow and Nightwing, Aquaman and Aqualad and Batman and Arsenal (no, I haven't got that wrong), eventually come upon the truth - a plot that could cause the devastation of Gotham and plunge the USA into war.
The teaming of Batman with Arsenal and of Green Lantern with Nightwing is inspired and highlights the different methods the former sidekicks have been taught to use to fight the bad guys. However, still teaming Aquaman with Tempest seemed more like a way to plug a hole in the plot than for any other reason. In fact, Tempest seems to have very little to do at all.
That said, it was quite a good read. Not the best DC book (that was The Stone King), but worth a look.
