Brilliant,

This review is from: Dazed & Aroused (Paperback)
Ambiguous and much of an enigma, like most of the modelling world, Dazed and Aroused isn't a black and white novel about seedy men and abuse or drugged up models sniffing coke off Kate Moss's handbag. Bower still paints the modelling industry as it actually is: sometimes phenomenal, sometimes awful, sometimes in-between.

Witty and absorbing,
By noelle "PPP" (uk) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Dazed & Aroused (Paperback)
It doesn't happen very often that I'm up till 3 in the morning jut reading, but I couldn't put this book down! Gavin Bower has definitely learned - stylistically - from Brett Easton Ellis, however this story is very much based on his personal experiences from what I can gather.
Anyone who has lived in London in the 1990s/ 2000s will appreciate how well he sets the city's scene. The plot moves gently at first before sweeping both the main character and the reader up into unexpected twists. Bower doesn't glamourise modeling neither does he present it as a seedy industry that uses and abuses those involved. It is what it is, like any other place of work it has its advantages and its disadvantages that Bower takes us through. I look forward to reading more from this young author and recommend this book to anyone seeking an accessible, satisfying read or as a gift for anyone who likes Brett Easton Ellis.

Bold and Punchy,
By Helen Richmond "HR Booklover" (South London) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Dazed & Aroused (Paperback)
The author tells the gritty tale of the smoke and mirrors world of male modelling without the surface gloss usually applied to this seedy world. It isn't BEE, it's an English counterpoint and it works, with alternately subtle and falling off my chair humour. I liked it and would read more by this rather stylish debut author.
